Christmas came and went and The Yule Ball came around and she hadn't got a date. Not that it mattered, she didn't really need one. She was happy enough as she is. She doesn't need a man to define her. So she is going as a lone wolf (quite literally as well.)
What didn't help was her wake up call that morning. "I am going with Lily to the dance today!" An excited James shouts loudly permanently damaging her ear drums.
She groans sitting up and rubbing her eyes desperately trying to wake herself up. The three boys had enough of waiting for them for breakfast so they left leaving Edith on her own in the dorm, with Sirius.
It was the first time they have been alone together since the moment on the Astronomy tower and to say it was awkward was an understatement.
"Morning." Croaks a tiered Sirius desperately trying to fix his hair for the day.
"Morning Paddy." Edith yawn going to get changed. Deciding to wear some simple joggers and a hoodie as she will have to get ready for the dance later.
"So I was thinking." Sirius says nervously playing with his hands refusing eye contact with the blue eyes. "That we could go to the dance together?" He asks waiting for a response. He senses a bit of hesitation "As friends." He adds even though he wants to be more then friends.
"I don't see why not." She says smiling Sirius's eyes meets hers and he smiles a wide Sirius smile that if you didn't know him well enough you were lucky to see. And Edith smiles back a pink tint to her cheeks a shy smile on her face.
"Well My lady, lets go down for breakfast, I happen to be starving!" Sirius says standing up from his place on the bed and walking out the dorm with Edith behind. Sirius slows down letting her catch up just to drape his arm over her shoulders. Even though he has done this many times before something about it feels different to Edith and it brings butterflies to her stomach.

The boys had decided to go to the Prefect baths with Remus to get ready leaving the dorm for Edith and the girls to get ready in.
Edith pulls on a dress and examines herself in the mirror eventually pulling her red hair into a loose plait. And underneath her dress she wears some navy blue converse if she is dancing she doesn't want to hurt her feet and end up walking around in bear feet.

Edith exits the bathroom to see Marlene in a light pink dress her hair flowing past her shoulders. She sees Alice her brown fringe straightened and her dark blue dress flowing down to her knee. Finally she eyes Lily who is looking beautiful in her silk green dress.
"Wow!" Lily says walking over to admire her dress.
"Who did you end up going with anyway Edith?" Marlene says putting on the finishing touches of makeup.
"Sirius Black." Edith says quietly.
Lily turns to her a smirk on her face. "Really now?"
"As friends" Edith adds her face turning a light pink color.
"Lets go get our men!" Marlene says leaving the dorm with Alice arm in arm.
Lily offers Edith her arm and Edith grips it walking through the castle with her. Chatting without a bother in the world. Her breathe hitches as she sees Sirius. Who has an arrogant but charming smile on his face. His hands lolling inside his pockets and his hair pulled back which he pulls off with grace. He wears a black tailcoat and underneath a smart waist coat vest and a shit with a black tie with dark blue trousers.
James is waiting at the bottom of the steps to dressed in a plain black suit smiling as he sees Lily ascend the stairs and offering his arm. In the distance Edith can see Remus with Marlene and Peter with Alice who are all smiling widely.
Edith grabs the handrail as she walks down the stairs. Sirius looks up at the steps his eyes meeting Edith, his mind can't function all he can think is wow. She wears a Gryffindor colored dress that makes her ginger hair light up and contrasts with her blue eyes. He looks her dress up and down it shows off her curves and he cannot help but smile when he sees she isn't wearing heels but navy blue converse. So Edith.
"You look Ravishing Edith" Sirius says in a low deep voice, now Edith was beside him. Offering her his arm which she takes gratefully.
"Not to bad yourself Paddy, not to bad at all." She mutters more to herself then him but still makes his cheeks heat up slightly.
The two of them walk over to where the rest of the marauders seemed to have grouped with their dates.
"You two came together?" Asks a shocked James who has an arm laced around Lily's waist.
"As friends" Both Edith and Sirius say at the same time before meeting each others gaze causing both of their cheeks to alight before looking away.
"Lets dance!" Marlene says dragging Remus to the dance floor before he can say anything, the others not far behind leaving Edith and Sirius behind literally sitting on Ice chairs. Sirius stands up dramatically standing in front of Edith and bowing offering his hand.
"Would you like this dance!" He says in a deep velvet voice. Edith nods putting her dainty hand in his soft one and he leads her to the dance floor. The pair seem to know what to do. Sirius puts a light hand on her waist and Edith puts a hand on his back. Sirius easily slips her hand into his and intertwines their fingers as the music starts. The two easily move to the sound of the music waltzing through the music as if they are the only ones there.
Remus sips on his punch his arm around Marlene. Smiling at the two dancing as the other Marauders talk absolutely oblivious.
The night ended quicker then Edith wanted it too. She would be lying if she said she didn't have a good time. She had the best time between dancing with Sirius and hanging out with the marauders and their dates she had the best time.
