Chapter 54
Chrismas With The Mikaelson's

Christmas.

She hadn't had once since everything had fallen apart, for her.

Since her family had been destroyed and stripped away from her, she hadn't been able to look at the holiday the same. But perhaps, today ... was the day it changed.

Nik had talked her into it.

He talked her into so many things.

Without him, there she wouldn't have walked down the stairs.

Yet, when everyone turned to look at her, Nik and Hope she wasn't concerned. She finally felt safe.

And for the first time, she smiled at Elijah when they reached the bottom. "Merry Christmas, little one," he said to Hope, and she smiled back at him.

Her life was too long to hate him. In the end, he made Hayley happy and if she was happy ... she'd just have to learn to deal with him being around. Even if, he had an irritating attitude.

"Well, Nik, you are positively merry tonight," Rebekah said, coming around the corner in a stunning red dress. "Some would say you're in love" she teased, giving Andrea a knowing look.

"Oh, no" Klaus groaned.

She walked closer to see a fire burning in the courtyard and she couldn't help but smile at how annoyed he was by a simple fire.

She looked over her shoulder, turning back and smiling. "Yes, I know it's not exactly a bonfire, but I improvised," she said to Andrea. "Come on its tradition" she protested when she saw Nik pouting.

"She's right," Andrea added, grinning up at him and taking his hand. "We are in New Orleans" she teased, dragging him over to the fire, making Rebekah cheer with victory.

"Yes, well I don't recall wishing for an influx of enemies and yet ... year after year ..." he said.

"How odd. Forever, on Santa's naughty list" Elijah said, following along, with Hayley right next to him.

Rebekah was the last one to throw her wish into the fire. "One of us is still meant to fall by family," Rebekah said, dreary the mood, suddenly.

Maybe it was possible she ...

"Right now, what concerns me is our enemies" Nik replied, drawing her attention again.

She looked down to see Hope was peacefully asleep. "And mine is the sleeping baby" she whispered, nodding over to Hayley and Freya and joining the group.

He carried on. "They have the weapon they intend to use against us. They can not know we found you, Rebekah. And they can't know we fixed that hex either. Our best advantage is if they believe you are lost at sea" he explained.

"Then I can't say can I" Rebekah admitted. She didn't want to go. She wanted to stay with her family, with Andrea.

Hope's giggles rang through the house and the three originals looked to see Andrea, Hayley, Camille and Freya, playing with her. And they looked the happiest they had been in months.

"Does she remember?" Rebekah asked, finally pulling her eyes away from them. "The burst of light, whatever that was?"

"I don't think so" he admitted.

"Keep an eye on her then, when I'm gone?" she asked Klaus.

"I don't think she's going to let you leave" he chuckled.
