A little over a month had passed since Niamh and Leah's first couple-type fight but there was no doubt in the fact that the pair had only gone strength-to-strength since that day. Leah's international break had finished and was back training at Arsenal, until two days ago when she finally had her Christmas break. The café had been blooming with business (as it usually does at winter time) meaning Niamh had been busy nearly every day. However, the café, too, came to a close on the 19th, giving the Yates some time to spend with one another over Christmas. Much to Niamh's dismay, the families had never made it out to the meal that the girls had wanted to plan, but deciced to try make it a special New Year's occasion instead.
The pair had spent as much time as they could with one another, but, inbetween Niamh's shifts and Leah's training schedule, it was rare. However, the time apart only made the two more excited to spend some well-earned time together over Christmas. Niamh and Leah had grown so fond of each other and their relationship had become something so special, they felt to be so lucky they'd found each other. Yet, Niamh always wondered whether the 'official' question would be asked eventually but, decided to not give it much thought; she loved spending time with Leah, and didn't want to take the special hond they had for granted.
However, what Niamh didn't know was that Leah was driving herself crazy in trying to find the opportunity to ask Niamh such a big question. To Leah, she was never one for having a girlfriend or boyfriend for the sake of things so, when she knew she wanted to make Niamh her girlfriend, she knew she was special, and, therefore, had to wait for the perfect moment to ask her. She didn't want to plan nor force anything, she wasn't one for that. Leah knew when the time would be right.
As it was nearing Christmas, the Williamson and Yates households became festively decorated inside, and out, covered in fairy lights and Christmas themed decorations. Niamh always knew she was a summer person, but Christmas was such a special time and brought so many together across the globe, she admired it. Similarly, Leah loved Christmas because of the time she was given to spend with her family, who she loved greatly.
It was a frosty evening beyond the window of the Yates household, as the family were all seated on the sofa, wrapped in blankets, all with 'Love Actually' playing in the background. It was Niamh's turn, that night, to pick a Christmas film and she, of course, picked her favourite one. One in which she used to watch with her Nana, on repeat, when she was little.
"You know, mum, I think you look a lot like Karen from this film." Niamh said, squinting at the TV and connecting the dots to whom she reminded her of.
Hattie laughed out loud and said, "Yeah right! Mum looks way younger!"
"Thanks Hattie." Lisa laughed, eyes still fixated on the TV.
Theo and Mick simply watched the film without a complaint as the women had been made to watch multiple films to their distaste, on previous nights and figured it is only fair they watch Niamh's choice.
As the film and plot deepened, Niamh felt a buzz in her hoodie pocket and reached in to her cold phone to read the message she'd just received,
