newport pagnell, milton keynesMonths had passed since Leah's injury, and she was in the best place she could be physically; Niamh hadn't left her side for more than half an hour at a time since that day, and she swore she never would.
After the pair moved in together, Niamh and Leah had never felt more content, even with Leah's injury, they both knew that this is what they wanted, and so they went for it. It was far from an easy road, for any of them, but Leah knew she had the support from her loved ones throughout the whole process, and for that she was eternally grateful. Of course, everyone had their down days, but... don't we all?
flashback
Leah lay on the sofa, where she'd spent the majority of her day, surrounded by cardboard boxes, unopened parcels and bits of furniture that were yet to be built. As she aimlessly flicked through the TV guide, the sound of the door's lock ticking made her ears prick up.
"Hey, I'm home!" Niamh shouted, a sense of relief washing over her as she saw that Leah was okay.
As she placed the shopping bags onto the island that stood tall within the kitchen, she strolled over to Leah on the sofa and bent down to press her lips against hers, "Hi."
"Hi." Leah mumbled back, "You get everything you need?"
"Yeah, thank god. I refuse to go out food shopping again this week, it's draining." Niamh laughed, causing Leah to let out a breathy chuckle too.
"Can you help me up?" Leah asked fairly sternly.
"Are you sure? How up to date are you with medication? Have you done your exercises? What about-"
"Niamh." Leah cut her off, "Everything is fine. I'm fine. Okay?" She reassured, "Now, help me up?"
As Niamh moved her hands to help Leah up from the sofa, she failed to see the glass of water beneath her, spilling it as she began to move, causing her to sigh heavily.
"Oh for fucks sake." Niamh mumbled, and began running frantically to get a towel to dry it up.
"Niamh, just-" Leah tried to speak but Niamh's chaotic demeanour meant she couldn't get a word in edgeways.
"No, I have to dry it to make sure you don't slip, you know that-"
"Niamh! Just leave it!" Leah shouted, taking Niamh by surprise.
An awkward silence arose, as Niamh's expression began to falter into one of regret and sorrow. After her outburst, Leah shortly realised what she had done and how it was wrong, "Niamh, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-"
"No, it's fine. I get it. I'm doing too much." Niamh said sadly.
Leah took a breath, "Don't say it like that."
Niamh didn't respond to this, but instead helped Leah up onto her crutches and then resumed unpacking the shopping she'd just brought in.
Leah shook her head slightly, feeling the tension between them, but after all, what could she do?
