(Jen's POV)
The world seemed to move a little bit slower ever since we'd gotten home. As the realization that I could never run from my mother set in, everything had I'd felt so helpless and lost. The world was spinning and I couldn't make it stop.
Austin was trying so hard to make things feel better. And I appreciate his efforts. They just weren't working. I mean, what would you do if your mother had sent someone to murder your best friend so she could have you back, not even because she loved you, but because she needed money?
Surprisingly, the thought of cutting or harming myself never seemed like an option to me ever since we'd been home. What my mother wanted the most was to destroy me and everything I stood for. And I sure as hell was not about to give her that satisfaction.
Even still, I feel like I deserved a little bit of self pity for a while. I had good reason.

(Austin's POV)
"I'm not sure, man, I'm just worried about her." I said to Mason's face on my laptop screen.
"Jesus. I would be too." He responded.
Mason was the only person I could think of who might be able to get Jen back on her feet. I knew that she didn't like to "weigh me down" with her issues and I didn't want to force anything out of her.
"Can I talk to her?" He asked. I nodded, thankful that I didn't have to ask him to do so myself.
"Jen!" I called out. "Someone wants a word with you!"
Jen slowly walked down the stairs, clutching a Winnie the Pooh stuffed animal. She looked like a dead girl walking. I waved her over to the couch where Mason was waiting.
"You just get more beautiful every time I see you." He grinned.
For the first time in days, I saw a hollow ghost of Jen's familiar smile.
"Hey." She whispered.
I watched as she recounted the tale, letting herself cry. It was refreshing to see her so raw and open. Even if she wasn't speaking to me.
Sorry this was so short!!! A lot has been going on in my life lately and I've been lacking in updates. I promise you I'll have better stuff next time!
