Olivia Thorne

Christmas morning was a questionable holiday for me, my mom had gotten used to not having dad here but I still feel like to some degree she wished he was here, that he hadn't died before I met him, or before they could start their lives together.

We also didn't really go anywhere on Christmas, so we tended to do small things for one another and never really anything massive.

I liked to view it as how I was taught to be appreciative around gifts without expecting them to just roll in, like I still kept a box of money I got from my grandparents as they were really the only one's to send cards around my birthday and Christmas.

Rolling over on my bed and attempting to blink away sleep as I seemed to always sleep in later on Christmas; proof is I normally wake up near seven and it's almost nine, I picked up my phone, and turning it on to see that my friends had all wished me Merry Christmas along with promising to show off their presents when they opened them all, along with a message from Demetri saying he wanted to meet me at a park like two blocks from my house around ten.

Quickly replying as shortly as I could I walked to my bathroom and showered before getting out and checking to see how the recent bruise was doing. It was better and not as big as it had been but definitely still visible had anyone actually been paying attention.

Walking out of my bathroom I walked into my closet and found comfy pants, and an over sized turtleneck which was one of the few I owned.

When I left my room, I walked downstairs to the living room where I found my mom making breakfast for us while Christmas music played softly from the living room TV.

"Merry Christmas mom," I say as I crossed the room to where she stood to help with what I could.

"Merry Christmas Olivia, how did you sleep."

"I don't know kinda all over the place I woke up a few times."

"Well, there is coffee, and maybe this gingerbread French toast will help you wake up," she says looking up from dunking a piece of bread into a large glass bowl while on the stove a pan sat with two pieces cooking, and a stack of them on a plate nearby.

"Thanks mom," I say getting a plate and taking three slices before I heard knocking on the front door.

"Who is that?" I ask as I turned to look at the door.

"Paris and Angela reached out to me on Facebook they wanted to come here for breakfast."

"Only my friends would make Facebook accounts to ask to come over," I muse walking to the table and sitting down before walking to the door and opening it where I was greeted by my friends bundled up in their coats.

"Hi Olivia its cold as hell out here let us in," Paris says and I just laugh before moving so they could step into the house.

I then watched them take off their coats, and boots before going to get breakfast as my mom had finished cooking.

"Hi girls how has your morning been?" my mom asks.

"Good, I got to drive my car finally," Angela says.

"What car did you get?"

"Tesla Model S it's a used one from a few years ago."

"Model speed," Paris laughs.

I then just shook my head as I picked up my plate.

"Okay, I think you had too much egg nog before coming here," I remark before taking a bite out of the slice of toast.
