Olivia Thorne

I could feel my heart pounding as my mom drove into the chaotic Manhattan cityscape. Our destination, Thornbrook Academy where I'd be getting a tour of the school I was going to attend in a few months.

To say that I was nervous would be an understatement. It was a new world and I didn't know what to expect from it. As someone who had only ever seen the school from afar, I had a lot of assumptions. My friends did too like walls painted in gold.

Getting to the road leading to Thornbrook I watched the black iron gate open letting us in and I was met by gardens of flowers, low cut hedge lined fields that were recently cut, trees that were full and looked like they'd never even been affected by any kind of weather besides rain the whole time they were there. Then there was the professor lot that was filled with BMW's, Audi's, and Mercedes, along with a few Lexus vehicles, the one that stuck out was the GTR I'd seen come to Williamsburg the one day.

Then there was a separate road leading off towards what looked like a private neighborhood with a sign stating that it was a boarding neighborhood, which only made me wonder what kind of standards the school had if there were boarding houses that looked like divided brownstone townhouses with their own driveways and actual gardens.

I felt more out of place like I wasn't meant to be here this wasn't my school. I was leagues beneath every student here, and I knew that whole heartedly, I also was supposed to be getting a tour by one of the leadership students for the school.

Parking in the empty school lot my mom took out here phone since she had to work.

"I'll be out here working, enjoy your tour," she says giving me a smile as I got out of the car and looked back at her.

"I'll try."

I don't belong here.

Shutting the door, I walked along the path being careful to not even get remotely close to the well manicured lawns.

Getting to the front of the school I didn't even dare touch the handle with my bare hand preferring to use the sleeve of my sweater.

As I walked in, I found that the floors and walls were spotlessly clean, the marble I walked on was probably from some far-off place, and I couldn't imagine how long it took the janitors to scrub dirt off of the ground.

Looking around I eventually realized that the lobby had a massive crest of the school metallically poured into the floor, and there in the middle stood a girl who was sharply dressed in a Versace outfit except for the golden jewelry and navy-blue ruffle blouse underneath.

She looks like a supermodel.

Walking over to her I stopped on the edge of the logo where she gave me a soft smile that seemed plastered.

"Hi, I assume you're Olivia Thorne?" she says sweetly though she seemed deterred by something.

I don't have advantages on you what are you so upset about.

Maybe because she has to give you a tour.

"Yes, I am," I reply and she nods before extending her hand politely.

"Victoria Oarshard," she says when I take her hand giving it a light shake since I didn't know how she felt about people. More specifically Scholarship's.

"Let's begin your tour, ill show you the important parts," Victoria says turning sharply and walking off down the hall with me not far behind as she pointed out places at what seemed like random.

I quickly realized that the campus of Thornbrook was enormous and by any rate I'd be lucky if there was a ten-minute class change should I end up with classes on opposing sides of the school.

"Thornbrook has been around for over a hundred years teaching New York's most famous and wealthy students. One either comes here through selection, payment, or in recent years scholarships. The selection is when the school reaches out like it does with scholarships but just to wealthy families to send their kids here," Victoria explains as we passed the auditorium where I could see the massive amount of black cushioned chairs.

It didn't even look like the auditorium I was used to it was like it came straight from a theatre and placed in the school.

"At this end of the school is the swim halls we have Olympic pools and an actual team that competes with other schools and most years we win," she continues before we went upstairs.

There were dozens of classrooms and I quickly learned that here at Thornbrook anything was possible to be learned.

Students were also had larger lockers and had access to pretty much everything that seemed to make Thornbrook appear closer to a college campus then a high school.

At some point we ended up on the top floor of the school where Victoria pointed to a hall that had access to storage rooms with key cards along with a rooftop access for the workers of the school, and garden solarium.

"So that concludes our tour," Victoria says after two hours of showing me every nook and cranny of the school or claiming to have done we ended up back in a hall dedicated to all of the awards of the school's students.

"You may look around just don't get lost and don't break anything," Victoria says walking off leaving me to stare at a display case with trophies in it.

There were hundreds of them most gold a few silver. But it all told me one thing. This school had pride and a history of being the best.

Then there I stood looking out of a window at a sky that was beginning to grey, and water droplets that speckled the window. I wondered so much about this place and what it would be like to go here.

I'd have to keep to myself, or at least try to and if I made a friend which I probably wouldn't, but if I did, I'd hope they were like me or at least were close enough that I didn't feel inferior.

After a while of wandering through the halls back to the lobby I left the building feeling both a sense of lightness that I'd seen the building, but also a freedom that here was where I got to start over. The only negative.

I wasn't like anyone else here and likely never would be.

I know this one is shorter than I typically make them, but I also have a writing plan to follow, I apologize. Comment, vote, and share. Anyways

Peace✌
