It was the end of May and I knew full well that today was the make or break for what would happen to me.
I'd spent most of today finishing up the file that I had, with all of the relevant and often overlooked information in a case like this. I'd even warned my cousin who was Captain of one of NYC's precincts that I was bringing him a highly detailed inside file on one of New York's underground operation spheres.
Pulling open the door of my Range Rover I slipped into the front seat before tossing the paper folder I carried onto the passenger seat as I started the engine and buckled my seat.
As I left the garage of my townhouse before hitting shuffle on my playlist and allowing my songs to play just loud enough that I could lip sync to them but also pay attention to the road in front of me.
I could feel every movement my heart made as I drove towards NYPD. It was actually kind of fascinating how one muscle could make sure you stayed alive. One could have next to no brain function and yet the heart would keep one alive.
Focusing on the road I took the exit onto the Brooklyn Bridge to go into Manhattan, and I was practically counting down the streets that it would take before I would end up pulling up outside of the building where Logan and likely half of that precinct were waiting for me.
Eventually getting to the building I parked next to Logan's F-350 before hopping out of my Range Rover, and pulling my coat together buttoning it with one hand.
I wouldn't be surprised if some people wondered why Adrian Winters was coming to NYPD but at the same time, I doubt people would notice, it was why I'd chosen to come at this time of the night, almost no one was here.
Getting to the door Logan spots me and walks over to the door letting me in.
"Adrian," he says, and I nod to him.
"Captain St. Laurent," I reply allowing him to lead me through the police station though I kept casually noting positions of things and people in the event anything went wrong it was a habit I'd likely never kick because I'd been doing it for almost the past year.
When we finally got to his office, he let me in and shut the door along with the blinds before turning on his desk lamp that allowed me to see the shelves neatly filled with files, cases alphabetically ordered. A picture of his girlfriend on his desk beside the phone.
"So why have you come here with this information Adrian?" Logan asks sitting down in his chair with his hands folded.
"Because I can't keep lying to all the people I care about Logan, the best way to put this to an end is simply to confess to my wrong doing, take the punishment think about it during my sentence, and then move on, if possible," I say setting down the file on the wooden desk with a sigh.
"Also, you should check visitors when they come in," I add pulling out both halves of my father's handgun and setting it on the desk.
Logan nodded, before pulling the file towards him.
"It's not illegal to carry, it's just illegal to be your age and own one, so I will pretend I didn't see that. Especially since I know it used to belong to your dad," he says as I take the gun and put it back in a concealed area.
Logan then sat and began to read through everything page after page while I remained standing as he looked over the dozens of reports and pages of notes and information that I took note of making sure all of it was highly detailed.
When he stopped, he looked back up at me, and pulled open his drawer taking out a recorder and setting it down on the desk.
"Now Adrian I'm going to ask you to be really honest," he begins and I nod before he pressed the record button, "how did you get into all of this".
"I learned about this group in Brooklyn that targeted troubled boys and tried to get them into gang activities, I wanted to bring it down, people shouldn't have their kids targeted like that, so I took it upon myself to become an informant and gather everything that I possibly could about everything that was going on. Now I need away from it all."
"What is the name of the person that recruited you into this life of criminal activity."
"Demetri Flanne," I reply stoically.
"And how old were you when he first made effort to contact you?".
"Fifteen I was brought in fully at sixteen, ten months ago, just after the start of term".
"Were you pressured into doing the things you did."
"Yes, I started with just managing the books, organizing pay, to eventually doing an interrogation, I was scared and did what I thought best, so I got moved up by doing it. But I never meant for anyone to suffer or get killed like all the people I did, ended up. Those are listed in that file," I respond as I thought of all the people who I got killed completely unintentionally.
"Okay, you are free to go, thank you for bringing this all to my attention," Logan says pressing the stop recording button, as he gestured for me to stay where I was.
Once it was back in the drawer, he looked back at me. "Family doesn't screw over other family, I'm going to help you get a good lawyer, a good defense, the court will be on NDA's the works to make sure none of this gets to be public," Logan stresses looking up at me as he closed the file.
"However tomorrow we will have to impound all of the possessions listed so a group of high-end sports cars, your townhouse will get searched, and you will be imprisoned and put on trial. But it will be fair and since you are still a kid and didn't actually do any of the crimes themselves and since you were forced into these behaviours and felt guilt you will get a lessened sentence along with being the primary witness against so many people most only get two years as adults, this can get worked down to no more then a month with influence involved, but the court should be lenient," he adds gesticulating slightly.
"I will be prepared for that," I say mentally running it over in my head, "even if they give me higher sentencing, I would accept that too, I take responsibility for what I did," I press.
"I know, it's why I know regardless of what happens you will be a good CEO for Winters Group when you are allowed onto that board".
"What board, my family owns the company, I'm CEO by proxy currently, I just have no actual power aside from major decisions have to be approved by me. Because welcome to my parents will," I say with a smirk.
Logan nodded. "I hope you get the best out of this Adrian, just know as your cousin, I'm always going to have your back."
"Family over pride, is our pride," I muse leaning back against the door with my eyes shut.
"It is, now go home, I have stuff to finish off tonight anyways," Logan says clicking a pen as he began to look over something.
"Of course, good night, Captain," I say opening the door to the office and closing it behind me as I left before making my way back out of the precinct towards my vehicle, all the while my breathing began to shift, something I taught myself was to never break in front of people, and I wasn't going to do it in such a situation.
So now I just accept my actions, and my future whatever that looks like.
Getting to the Range Rover I got back in, and backed out of the spot before heading off back towards Brooklyn towards a home, that likely wouldn't be mine much longer.
We're nearing the end I'm doing my best, comment, vote, and share. Anyways
Peace✌
