Bucky - Please Forgive Me - Angst

"JAMES BUCHANAN BARNES IF YOU WALK OUT THAT DOOR NOW WE ARE DONE!" Y/n shouted. Bucky looked back at her with his bag full with his belongings. "No take backs and no forgiving. We will be completely done if you leave!" Tears were rolling down her cheeks. She didn't know why Bucky wanted to suddenly be done with her and leave. She didn't know what she did wrong and she has been trying to get him to just talk to her. But it was nothing that she did. She got hurt and her arm was now in a cast because his enemies went after her during a mission. They planned to use her to get to Bucky. He needed to protect her and he would rather she hated him than be dead.

"I can't be with someone as careless and weak as you." The hurt look on her face shattered his heart. She wasn't strong physically like the others. She had control over the elements. She was always insecure about not being strong like them and he just threw it in her face. He wanted to take it back and hug her close to him. He wanted to stay and comfort her in that moment but he wouldn't give up. He had to do this so she stays safe. He turned around and left.

"Loki! To your left!" It's been a month since the break up and Y/n asked to switch partners. So Loki and her have been busy since neither of them wanted to be at the tower. This burned Bucky to his core since the god was spending so much time with her. He on the other hand took less missions on the off chance he would get to see her walk through the door. But this mission the three of them were on together. "BARNES LOOK OUT!" She jumped and pushed Bucky out of the way and vines came from the ground. I stared at her in shock.

"Thanks.."

"Whatever. Sorry a weakling like me touched you." She then left him to fight. He watched her using her powers to fight. She truly was amazing and strong in his eyes. He deserved the back handed comment and rudeness. But at least his enemies weren't targeting her anymore. They finished the mission and the three were in the back of an army truck, headed back to the helicarrier. Loki kept glaring at Bucky who kept glaring back. Their staring contest was interrupted by a hiss from Y/n.

"What happened Darling?" Loki asked. Y/N's eyes widened and she chuckled.

"Nothing just sore." Neither man believed her but she refused to answer Loki's line of questioning.

It was the next day and Y/n never came out of her room. Wanda stitched up her side but suggested the healing ward.

"I'm not weak Wanda. I'm fine. Please don't say anything." Wanda nodded and left to talk to Loki. She figured Y/n told her best friend but she didn't. Loki quickly stood up and left for Y/N's room.

"What the hell was that about?" Tony asked.

"Nothing... all I know is is that she is never going to trust me again..." Wanda sighed. Bucky then started getting worried. What was going on with her? Is she ok? Did she get hurt? Why was she hiding it?

"For what? She has always told Reindeer Games everything. It's surprising that she didn't say anything to him." Tony stated.

"Yes, her and my brother are quite close."

"Part of me thought they were dating until last night." Steve said. Bucky quickly turned his head quickly to look at him, as did the rest of the team.

"What do you mean?" Natasha asked.

"Well it's obvious how broken she still is over the break up with Bucky." Clint chimed in. Natasha stepped on his foot harshly. "Ow! What? What did I say?!"

"He's not wrong." Steve said. "She was in the training room last night. Loki kept trying to get her to sleep before the mission but she refused. Said she needed to prove to Bucky she isn't weak and Loki eventually just picked her up and left."

"W-What?" Bucky started.

"You have been staying back at the tower sulking while she has picked up her case load with Loki and you mean to tell me you haven't noticed anything?" Clint stated. "Damn poor girl." With that Clint left to call his wife.

"Buck, none of us know the details of why you guys broke up but it's definitely effected her negatively. She always refuses the healing ward no matter how injured she is and refuses to ask for help on missions." Wanda stated. Bucky looked down in shame. What had he done? "She could really end up..."

"WANDA THE STITCHES BROKE! SHE'S UNCONSCIOUS!" Loki shouted carrying a very bloody Y/n.

"The healing ward is this way!" Bucky shouted taking Y/n from Loki and started running as fast as he could. "Please don't die Doll.... Please...." Bucky gave her to the nurses and doctors who began to try to stop the bleeding.

"Was she hit with anything on the mission?!" The doctor asked frantically. "I need an answer now!"

"I don't..."

"Yes but there seemed to be no injury!" Loki stated. "Not until we came home!"

"We need to check if the shrapnel has traveled to her heart! Everyone who isn't helping her get out!"

"This is your fault soldier." Loki growled.

"I know..." Bucky stated.

"You told her she was weak and she wouldn't come get checked out. She trained until exhaustion, all this to prove to you she wasn't. What the actual hell is wrong with you?" Bucky looked at the god with tear filled eyes. Loki didn't waver though and stared at him. "Was hurting her this bad worth it?! Tell me!"

"NO IT WASN'T I WANTED TO PROTECT HER BUT I DID THE OPPOSITE!" It suddenly clicked for Loki what Bucky had done and the god only rolled his eyes.

"Norns you are a fool. Because she got shot in the arm? I bet you never told her you felt scared. You didn't do this to protect her but to protect yourself." The doctor then came out to talk to the boys about Y/n.

She woke up in her own bed and heard sniffling. She pretended to stay asleep as they spoke.

"Doll I'm so sorry.... I'm so so so so so sorry..." Bucky whimpered out. "You aren't weak at all I never meant what I said.... I wanted to protect you from my enemies but Loki was right I only wanted to protect myself... Doll when you wake up I'll make this up to you just please.... Please wake up."

"Ok..." Y/N's voice was groggy and she began to cough. Bucky quickly grabbed her a glass of water and helped her drink it. He couldn't stop the tears streaming down his face. "Buck?"

"Please forgive me...." Y/n blinked as she stared at Bucky. "I wanted to protect you... at least that's what I told myself... you got hurt because of me on that mission before we broke up and now.... Please forgive me I love you... I don't know what I would do if you died.... Please I'm so sorry..." Y/n just stared at Bucky from his confession. Tears were rolling down her face when Loki walked in.

"Oh Darling! Thank the Norns you're awake!" Loki went to the other side of the bed and when he saw her tears, he glared at Bucky. "She needs to be healing! Not crying! You couldn't even let her rest?!"

"Loki it's ok." Y/n sniffled and then turned to Bucky. "You really hurt me James... I don't think we can go back to what we were." Bucky nodded.

"I know... even if it's just as friends Doll please... give me the chance to make it up to you." Y/n turned to Loki who sighed in irritation. Loki knew his best friend all too well. Y/n gave Loki a reassuring smile.

"Fine. But if he breaks your heart again then I break him." Loki walked out to give them some space.

"W-What?" Bucky looked at Y/n.

"Loki got me out of bed when I wouldn't bother. He made me eat when I didn't want to. What you did shattered me completely. Loki vowed to never let my heart be broken again." Bucky looked down in shame. "But if we want this to work, I know I do, we will need to do therapy. Both individual and couples therapy and you have to promise me you will never do this to me again."

"Of course! I promise! Doll thank you I-" Y/n leaned forward and captured Bucky's lips. She hissed in pain after a bit and Bucky smiled. "Promise me you will never be this reckless again."

"I promise and Bucky?" Bucky laid down next to her and kissed her forehead. "I forgive you."
