Chapter 27

"Commandant. There you are."

"A-Ah!" The Commandant found himself startled as he saw Lucia appear right next to him. He shivered as he recalled the event that happened as she stared at him with a bright smile.

"I haven't seen you since last night. Where did you go off to? I thought we planned on sleeping in. Why didn't you wake me up?" He gulped as Lucia's pupils were shaped like hearts. She was ecstatic and moved closer to him as he took a step back.

"W-Woah! Easy there! I had a meeting to attend too..." The Commandant said to Lucia as she continued to stare at him with those heart-shaped eyes. "I have something to do so I'll be busy for the day."

"Then allow me to help you."

"N-No. It's fine really—"

"I insist."

Lucia pushed onward as she got in front of the Commandant so he wouldn't get away. The man gulps, worried that she'll drag him.

"The Commandant won't be able to be with you for a while, Lucia."

The two of them turned to the new voice that spoke out. Vera stood in front of them as she looked at them.

"Vera?" Lucia blinked at the Construct as her demeanor changed. She calmed down as she reverted to normal.

"You've been assigned with the rest of Gray Raven to a mission. The Commandant won't join in."

"Why?" Lucia eyed Vera with suspicion. "He's the one who leads us. Why isn't he assigned with us?"

"This is a mission that doesn't concern him. That is all." Vera said as she waved at Lucia to come over to her.

Lucia wordlessly walked over to Vera with confusion. Vera then moved closer to her and whispered into her ear. She widened her eyes as Vera stopped whispering and moved away.

"Understood..." Lucia nodded as she then walked off quickly.

"Huh... Wonder what she was smiling about." The Commandant noticed Lucia's wide smile which surprised him. The only time she shows such a smile is around him. Even with everyone else, at best it's just a normal small smile that she leaves. He looked over at Vera and saw her place her hand on her waist and stared at him.

"Quite the womanizer aren't you?"

"?"

"First that new Construct you were eating with like a couple not long ago."

"You mean Amara—"

"Then you sleep with Lucia~"

"..." The Commandant flushed with embarrassment.

"I was right!" Vera said with a grin. "But that's not what I'm here to speak of. I wish to know who this Amara girl is. And why the two of you are so familiar with one another."

The Commandant blinked at Vera's words and smiled. "We have a past together. You can say, we grew up together. And yes, the two of us... are lovers. Officially now that is."

"... Officially? The two of you began being together recently? Why is that?"

"Because I haven't seen her until now... You can say... She went... missing." The Commandant scratched his nose with a small wince. "She just went... poof. I haven't seen her and yet, we both had feelings for one another. We just never revealed them."

"What you did with Lucia. Isn't that what we call cheating?" Vera smirked at him.

"I know everything." The Commandant's voice dropped a bit in tone as he looked right at Vera which surprised her. "There's quite many who are... after my affection."
