Commandant and his Constructs [PGR]

Chapter 39

"It's too early for this..." A yawn escapes from the Commandant as he sat patiently while they're being driven to their location. A few vehicles are driving among the barren land, heading to transport the civilians in need of help before time runs out. He looks out the window with a tired gaze as he rests his head against Liv's shoulder as she suggested that he can use her shoulder to lean on to relax. "Nikola and Hassen wanted us to leave immediately. Seems like things are dire if I were woken up at 5 in the morning..."

"Agreed. Seems like overnight things got worse." Lee said with a frown as he closed his eyes. "The information we were given is that the Hetero-Creatures are breaking the Constructs' defenses at a quicker rate and mortality rates have gone faster. If we don't arrive on time then the civilians and Constructs alike are dead."

"We won't arrive late." Lucia said with determination as she looked at Lee. "Don't say such things." She frowned at the man.

"I was just being logical." Lee told Lucia as he didn't mean to be rude. "I was stating the obvious, something that we will have to face if that were the case."

"Now now you two, calm down." Commandant smiled warily as he tried to calm down Lee and Lucia from arguing as they looked at him. "Lucia, Lee was just saying the truth of the matter and didn't mean to offend. Lee, we understand what might happen in the worst, it's just when you put it that way, you ruin the mood." Something we don't need right now early on.

"I'm sorry..." Both Lee and Lucia apologized as they calmed down from the Commandant's words.

"Hehe, Commandant sure knows how to solve any problem." Nanami grinned.

"Speaking of which Commandant, why is Nanami with us?" Liv asked as she thought only they (Gray Raven) were sent out on this mission.

"She wanted to come along as well when Celica told me about the mission yesterday."

"Commandant isn't escaping me haha!" Nanami grinned.

"How did she hear about the mission anyway?" Lee asked.

"I was helping her with maintenance work on her mecha. It took us all day and Celica just so happened to find us together."

"It was fun. The day goes by quite fast when you spend it with someone close to you!" Nanami said cheerfully.

"That is true..." Lee nodded as he understood the feeling. "How much farther until we reach our destination?"

"At best, 30 minutes." Lucia told Lee with a slight frown. "The problem lies if we run into any enemies on our way."

"Gotta deal with those Hetero-Creatures quickly and treat the patients. Last I heard, the shelter was overfilled." The Commandant said with a tired sigh. "Things are never easy are they?" Dealing with a crowd of potentially angry citizens is the last thing he wants to deal with. People get riled up easily with panic and anger.

"Why don't you just rest right now until we arrive, Commandant?" Liv asked with a soft smile. "We'll wake you up when we arrive."

"If you say so..." The Commandant grumbled as he closed his eyes. "I leave the rest to you all to wake me up."

"Aye aye, sir!" Nanami saluted as she heard the man snicker at her action causing her to smile.

It took about five minutes until the Commandant managed to fall asleep on Liv's shoulder as his breathing was calm. The vehicle drove them at a constant pace as they calmly awaited their destination.

The passing minutes go by and they near their destination.

*Buzz* *Buzz*

Liv blinked as she heard the Commandant's phone buzz in his pocket. "A message?" She went ahead and grabbed the phone from his pocket without too much movement to wake up the man.
