"How the hell did you get him here?"
Shouto was definitely in dad mode, looking at the two while tapping his foot. "We talked to some people, pulled some strings, and got his visit date pushed up to today. And before you get all mad look at how happy she is." Shouto looked over, seeing the smile on his daughter's face as she hugged her uncle.
He sighed because he knew they were right, he just wished they would've talked to him about it. Especially since his dad was now sitting in a lawn chair and zoned out, thinking if he just sat there maybe he'd fade out of existence. Everyone else was a bit uncomfortable, but it was Amai's birthday and she was happy.
"I didn't even know she could smile," Jirou mumbled, which earned her an elbow to the side from Izuku. They all just kind of stared at the dangerous murderer Dabi, twirling his niece who never showed emotion. It was cute... In a dangerous sort of way.
"Hey, Mom if the toilet's clogged should I- OH MY GOSH UNCLE TOUYA!" Akimitsu sprinted across the backyard and hearing his brother scream made Hiraku do the same. Dabi had to cling to Amai as his nephews grabbed his legs and hugged them tightly. "Jeez, boys don't knock us down! The birthday princess cannot get dirty."
Honestly, it was kind of sweet that they got to spend time with their uncle. Sure eventually they'd figure out he was a criminal, but for now, he was just Uncle Touya.
The party continued, but Amai started to realize her brothers were taking up a lot of time with her uncle. That wasn't fair, it was her birthday! Well if she couldn't have her uncle then she wanted cake. She walked up to the cake table, seeing the big cake for everyone, and then the smaller cake just for her. She was going to grab it, but then something else at the table caught her eye.
"So sis, when can we expect some kids from you?" Touya asked Fuyumi while the boys clung to his legs. "I've only been married for a year Touya, plus Natsou just had a baby a few months ago." "True, and Miyuu is very adorable, but we're all pretty much getting beaten out by little bro here."
Dabi grabbed Shouto and pulled him under his arm, and Shouto huffed while remembering he was there for his daughter. Even if he was getting a noogie when he was almost thirty he'd do it for Amai. Speaking of Amai, she was spotted by the cake table when she definitely shouldn't be.
"Amai, get away from the cake." She looked at him, and when she took a couple of steps back he saw the giant knife she was holding. "Oh shit." "Amai baby..." Shouto got out of Dabi's hold and slowly started walking toward her. "Put the knife down please."
Now, Amai would listen. But she felt like she was going to get in trouble, so she did what any reasonable four-year-old would do.
She started running. With the knife in her hand. At full speed through the backyard.
"AMAI NO!" Shouto started chasing her and was honestly shocked his toddler was outrunning him. It caught the attention of the people at the party, and suddenly everyone was concerned about the little girl with a knife running from her father.
Hiraku felt like he needed to help, so he yelled "Let's play red light green light right now! RED LIGHT!" While Amai didn't follow most rules, she believed in red light and green light. She stopped in her tracks, and Hiraku grabbed the knife from her. Shouto stopped to catch his breath because he knew Hiraku knew better.
"I got it, Dad!" "Thanks, bud... Now-" "Here, catch!" "OH MY GOD NO!" It was too late, because Hiraku flung the knife at his father, making Shouto screech and everyone move out of the way. The knife landed straight on the ground, and Ochako scurried to pick it up.
Shouto walked over to Amai and picked her up, but before he could say anything he saw the tears in her eyes. "I'm sorry Daddy..." "Baby I'm not mad, please don't-" Shouto stopped for two reasons. The first was because she started to cry and he felt bad.
But the second was that he saw the end of her hair flicker, and once he registered it the ends of her hair had caught on fire.
His eyes went wide at the fact his daughter's quirk just appeared on her fourth birthday and the fact that the flames were blue. Ochako quickly came over to try and calm her down, but Amai's skin had gotten hot due to the fire. Curse her husband and his fire powers.
Everyone was in a mix of feeling bad that she was crying at her birthday party, shocked that her brother just threw a knife, and baffled at the fact she just got quirk. The parents tried to calm her down, and eventually, she started to reach for Dabi.
"Oh, I don't... Know how to comfort children. Or people." "Just hold her." Natsou pushed his older brother, and he took Amai from Shouto and started to lightly bounce her. "Uh, hey kid. I know it's your party, and you can cry if ya want to, but you still gotta sing happy birthday and open your presents, including the super cool one your little blonde friend brought that she keeps talking to everyone about."
Kayoko perked up at the thought of her gift, walking up to them and looking at Amai. "Yeah, you gotta open your gift! I want you to like it." Amai started to calm down, wiping her tears as her breathing slowed. "I open it now?" She looked back at her parents who nodded, and she got down and held Kayoko's hand to the gift table.
Shouto noticed that the flames hasn't fully gone out, but lightly flickered and were red now. Mina grabbed the present and gave it to Kayoko who gave it to Amai. She ripped the blue wrapping paper and saw a purple rectangular box. When she lifted the box she gasped, the flames coming back just as a flash.
She put her hands in the box and lifted out an American Girl doll that looked exactly like her. "You got this Yoyo?" "Yep, I remember when I got one for my birthday and you liked it. So, I got one for you. She's even fireproof, which was more for Hiraku but now it helps you out too! Cool quirk by the way."
Amai stared at the doll, and she hugged it tight before looking at Kayoko. "Thank you Yoyo! I love it!" "Of course Mymy! I'm happy you love it!" Amai's parents watched as she showed everyone the doll. "Really hoping the twins get your quirk." Ochako laughed at her husband, but she didn't hear the worry in his voice.
God, he hoped he would raise Amai right.
[a/n: to explain Amai's quirk, the ends of her hair are always on fire, but the flames are red. Whenever she strongly feels an emotion, they burn a bright blue.]
