There were a couple of silent minutes before footsteps could be heard rushing down the hallway. They were heavy, male, and they walked with power and confidence never pausing to wait. Carefully, I pushed myself into a sitting position before pulling the covers around me and straightened them out. The sound of bare feet could then be heard and I felt a dip once more in the bed, the soft scent of cherries filling my nose. Gabriel had shifted besides me once more, his hand wrapped up in mine as we waited. I relaxed as Gabriel lightly rubbed my shoulder when the door opened.
"Okay what in the world is going on?" The bouncy voice asks his voice containing a slight undertone of worry. I look over and I hear him take an uneven breath as, I assume, he catches sight of me. Biting my lip I try hard not to hide the scars covering my eyes and Gabriel squeezes my hand. The scent of citrus and ginger filled the room and the light scent of cedar from before increases.
"Doc this here is Sang and she was admitted this morning at fucking 9:30. It is now fucking 2:45 and no one has come to talk to her about why she was admitted, what her injuries are, or basically anything. This fucking idiot just came in telling her she could leave but didn't have her clothing and then preceded to mix up the paper work. She even fucking tried to walk out without Sang receiving any of her clothes." Gabriel barked his voice rough and I quickly rushed to place a hand on his shoulder squeezing it slightly as his voice raised in volume. Before I could speak however, the nurse decided this would be a great time to speak up.
"This isn't my fucking fault!" She practically screamed and I could hear her shoes hit the tiled floor as she stood. Gabriel shifted in front of me and my hand slipped from his shoulder to his back as he turned in a protective manner. Biting my lip, I could feel my face heat up as I felt his well toned muscles under my touch. God he was fit. But before I could take a second to register anything else the nurse's high pitched tone cut into my thoughts making me flinch.
"I was just fucking told that I had to complete and inform all the patients of what was going to happen next. Its not my fucking fault her paper work is missing! I hate this place and all the stupid bitchy patients that never seem to be happy." Her foot stomped hard on the floor and I heart a flutter of papers before she rushed to the door but the sound of the doctor's footsteps silenced them.
"That is enough." The doctor's bouncy voice had gone flat and was dead serious. I could hear anger begin to surface as well. "You will go to the office and report in as far as what you have completed. Leave your name and your badge with Dr. Khole and take a seat in his office until I can find someone to replace you."
Surprised I listened as there was a huff and the nurse rushed out the door slamming it behind her. Pulling my hand away slowly from Gabriel's back, I covered my face taking a few slow calming breaths. Why was this happening to me? My thoughts stumbled over themselves and suddenly the soft callused hands of Gabriel appeared on my forearms. "Sang?" His voice had lowered to his normal tone and I could tell he was calm.
"I just want to go home." I whispered feeling all of my energy drained. Everything had gone wrong today and it seemed as though everything was getting worse. The nurse didn't deserve to be fired even though she had said such harsh words. I took a breath rubbing my scars nervously. Why did I have to wake up this morning? Taking another slow breath suddenly the scent of cherries floods all of my senses as I was pulled into a hug.
It was as if I could see him, or at least his body. He was lean and fit. His chest was flat and I could slightly feel the definition of muscles. Surprised by the sudden touch, I had realized I had tensed my body and I slowly relaxed as he held me in the warm embrace. Resting my forehead against his shoulder I slowly took a few more breaths before he pulled back.
