Even when I was dead tired I would always be a light sleeper. Didn't matter the time or how many hours I had managed but when it came to getting a beating or hiding I had better be on my game. Thus why only an hour after I had managed to fall asleep in the new house even with all the traveling we had done, I could hear when someone dropped a glass downstairs in the kitchen.
Panic is always the first thing that sets in but I had conditioned my body to learn that reacting could result in pain. So I lay there in my pitch black world and allow my senses to take over. My ears instantly focus upon Owen who is softly breathing besides me. I count to make sure they are even breaths letting me know that he was out cold. Like I am sure the rest of the house is... well besides who ever dropped the glass.
Forcing slow breaths, I shift nervously from the bed careful not to wake Owen from his sleep. Once standing, I slowly begin my adventure through the darkness. Moving was something people looked forward to... something I looked forward to when I was out on the streets. It was great finding some place new to explore even some place to live. But now... now it was a nightmare. Standing somewhere I had been brought to after travel was like standing on the edge of a cliff blind folded. You knew something was there and that you could fall at any second but didn't know when or how.
Taking another calming breath, I reach out and begin to stumble my way out of the bedroom as quietly as possible. Managing to make it to the door, I close it behind me and drag my hand along the wall following it around a small curve with lots of doors before down a hallway where I could hear the room begin to echo. Hallway. Pausing to listen to my surprise, I hear the sound of a shaking dry cough coming from down below.
If it was a robber he wouldn't be making that much noise. Taking another breath, I kneel down and place my hands on the carpet and push them out searching for the lip of the stairs. It takes me a couple of minutes before I find it. Sliding down the stairs on my bottom I take my time until I make it to the bottom landing.
Stepping onto the cool hard wood floor, I hear the coughing again and the a soft swear. Frowning, I begin to take a step forward and then remember the glass. "Hello?" I call out and the coughing suddenly stops and I hear something close.
"Sang?" The voice is very soft and raspy and I frown struggling still to place it. "Don't step over here there is glass on the floor. I was trying to get water and-" The male is forced to stop as coughing takes over. It takes a couple of moments before he is able to stop the coughing and speak again. "I didn't want to wake up Raven." Sucking in a breath, I take another step forward.
"Cory?" I pause waiting for confirmation.
"Yes Sang?" Cory states confused as he slowly approaches me placing a hand on my side. Instantly I grab his hand and pull him closer. The soft scent of Russian washes over me and I thank the lord that it is still dark because my face grows hot.
"Cory I'm sorry." I whisper. "I didn't know who it was. Your voice."
"I-" Cory stops once more and practically doubles over coughing and I rush to keep him steady letting him lean on me. Pressing a hand on his chest, I frown as it crackles.
"Cory bring me to Raven. Now." I order now worried and the male slowly straightens and guides me back up the stairs but instead of going to the right where I had come from earlier he goes to the left.
Making our way into the room, we manage to make it part of the way in before Cory doubles over again and I carefully grab onto him. "Russkiy, vot, vash mal'chik bolen!" Russian get over here your boy is sick. Almost instantly there are footsteps and a hand is touching my side and Cory's.
"Little birdie what the fuck happened?" Raven growls and I shiver from the heat from his body.
"He was down stairs trying to get water. Dropped a glass which woke me up. He won't stop coughing." I whisper as Raven carefully shifts his touch from me to Cory.
"Go get the doc." Raven orders and I quickly shift moving from the room only to pause... where was Sean's room?
Unsure what to do, I move to the door next door to Raven's and pull it open. Instantly the scent of coffee washes over me and I relax. "Marc!" I call out and I hear instantly shifting.
"Sang? What the hell it's way to-" I cut him off.
"I need to get to Sean's room Cory is sick!" I state not bothering to wait and suddenly I am wrapped up in Marc's arms as he rushes down the hall. He pounds on the door once before opening it.
"What?! Whose hurt!?" Sean asks his voice distorted with sleep and panic.
"Cory is sick. Raven asked Sang to come get you." Marc states as he places me on my feet and I can feel Sean rush by me along with Marc. Thankfully a strong hand is placed on my back to steady me.
"Not even an hour." Owen's exhausted voice states and I tuck into his chest allowing his scent to wash over me. Thankfully the male takes my silence as understanding as he lifts me up into his arms allowing me to rest on his chest. But all I can think is that he is right.
Why me?
