Jisoo was sitting on the floor of the dance hall, trying to absorb what she had heard. Jaehyun sat across from her, waiting for any reaction. He wouldn't mind if the girl attacks him with fists and screams, if only she would not be silent. Jisoo wasn't crying. And that only made her feel bad.
For the past six months, she's been living with the conviction that she does not have and never had a child. It was so much easier for her to deal with the fact that she even lied to Haein about giving a birth to a dead baby. Jisoo didn't ask her mother, which family it was given to, if they were Koreans or if they even lived in the neighbourhood. She wasn't interested at all. And now, when Jaehyun told her that it was a girl, that her name was Dalbi and that she lived with her grandparents, she didn't want to believe it. She couldn't afford it. Her life had just frozen in place. Jisoo went back again. To a place where she had never even thought to return. And again, it was Jaehyun's fault.
"Why..." she began with a trembling voice and could not finish her question, as tears treacherously began to flow from her eyes. "Why did you tell me about it?"
The girl's question caught him off guard. He stuttered, moving his eyes around in confusion.
"Everything was fine until you burst into my life again" suddenly for him she started screaming, jumping to her feet. "I abandoned child..."
"Dalbi!" he interrupted her standing up.
Jaehyun himself just a few weeks ago found out that his parents were raising his daughter with help of nannies. He took the first flight to Seoul to make sure of this, and on the same evening decided that he wanted to start a family with Jisoo. Jaehyun lamented a lot that he had not asked her to do so the day she told him she was pregnant, but he still hoped they could make it. He enlisted the support of his parents who were more concerned about the family's reputation. The father, who was influential in the world of politics, feared that by giving the child to an unfamiliar family, they would risk ruining his career in the future. Therefore, by agreeing with Jisoo's mother, they hid it from the children, planning to reveal the truth only when they reached adulthood and could legitimize their relationship.
"I don't care what her name is!" blurted out Jisoo angrily, showing how unpleasant she was with this child.
Jaehyun, who had become attached to his daughter too quickly and too immeasurably, could not let Jisoo talk like that. He understood the girl's reaction and justified in his mind that the news was too unexpected for her, considering how much Jisoo had gone through. But Jaehyun couldn't handle his emotions, so he tightly grabbed her by the shoulders, leaving painful marks, and looked at her with an angry look.
"Her name is Dalbi. And she is our daughter, whether you like it or not," he said, but not as vicious as he felt inside. The girl's tears prevented him from attacking her any further. Jaehyun could see that Jisoo was struggling. "You should meet her. Believe me, things will change," he went on, slowly changing his tone to a soothing one, and continued to hold her thin skin with his fingers. "Things will get better, I promise, Jisoo. My parents will help us. In six months, we'll finish school, get married..."
"What?!" she interrupted him, opening her eyes wet with tears. "You gotta be joking, Jaehyun," she grinned angrily and, noticing his seriously furrowed brows, she laughed.
Nerves gave way so that Jisoo managed to continue to cry and at the same time burst into laughter. If she hadn't been insanely exhausted, she would have screamed out of anger, as she was amazed at the insolence of her ex boyfriend to talk to her about marriage so calmly.
"Let me go and make sure we never cross paths again," she muttered, barely calming her laughter, and snorted her nose, making it a point. She won't cry in front of him again.
