Jisoo was sitting in Director Yoon's office and sometimes forgot to breathe from excitement. The woman, constantly squinting at the documents, was silent, although she held the student waiting for the final verdict for almost half an hour. In the morning, at a meeting, she and the higher-ups had to decide on the fate of the girl's education at the academy. Jisoo had a slight hope that they decided to let her stay since Yoon Seah was in no hurry to tell her good news for herself. Jisoo always knew that the director couldn't stand her. Probably because she reminded her too much of her younger self.
"So," the woman finally said, looking up at Jisoo and taking a deep breath.
Actually, Jisoo was very wrong. Seah, although she was too strict with her, she did it only out of pedagogical motives, to temper the student and show her clearly how difficult it is in the ballet business. She sincerely wished Jisoo to go further up the career ladder. But she did not succeed in convincing the higher-ups from re-exclusion, although the girl wasn't guilty of the behavior of her boyfriend.
"I'm sorry to report this," she began, and Jisoo, not wanting to listen any further, jumped to her feet. She knew that no good news would begin with those words, even from Director Yoon's mouth. "Jisoo, sit down," the woman ordered her quietly, and with one look, she was able to force her to obey her. She took another deep breath, as it was difficult for her to talk about it herself. "I understand your feelings. Believe me, no matter how hard I tried to convince them to just suspend you for a while, it was impossible. That incident tarnished the name of our academy. I think you realize this. And on the night of that day, Mrs. Jeong, the wife of the diplomat Jeong, called us and demanded an explanation as to why her son returned from classes mutilated. You may be young, but the world of ballet does not spare anyone because of age. I know Jaehyun well, and I can see how strained your relationship is with him. And I was proud of you when I watched your performance at Madame Bernard's open lesson. When, despite your past, you were able to put aside your grudges and perform professionally. You are artists first and foremost, and it is not proper for you to put on a show like the one I saw that day at the academy."
"Jaehyun ran into this himself," Jisoo automatically excused herself, rubbing the bruise on her wrist, and lowered her head, touching the engagement ring with her gaze. A sudden desire to give Haein back this ill-fated ring that had brought them so much trouble in just one week insidiously crept into her unprotected head.
"You have to deal with this on your own. Beyond the walls of our academy. Therefore, I will ask you, Jisoo, to return the key to your locker and call mo..." The woman stuttered in mid-sentence. Out of habit, she wanted to ask her to call one of her parents to the academy but remembered that the girl had recently become an orphan. "... your guardian."
"I don't have anyone!" she answered irritably, feeling how these words, spoken aloud, cut deeply into her heart. Taking out a key from her jacket pocket, she tossed it onto the table to the woman, who once again sighed heavily, not even thinking about scolding Jisoo for such disrespectful behavior. "Goodbye," she said, biting her lips, and hurried out of the office, as she didn't want to burst into tears in front of Director Yoon.
Jisoo planned to do it in Dalbi's room, holding her daughter tightly to her chest and promising her that she would never let anyone treat her baby girl like that. After all, if her mother were around right now, she would turn Yoon Seah's desk upside down until she was allowed to talk to the Dean himself.
Jisoo wanted it to be. But her fantasies were inspired only by another load of loneliness, because the mother did not do this at her first exception, arguing her inaction by the fact that Jisoo needs to take care of her health for the sake of the child and ballet would only interfere with her.
"Where are you?" she angrily snapped into the phone when she left the academy and called Jaehyun first thing.
Jisoo only now noticed that in all the time he was gone, the guy had never called her, although she understood that, most likely, he was trying to recover from the public beating. Both physically and mentally. The first time, during their fight with Haein, Jaehyun got hit harder, but then there were no witnesses in the form of classmates from the academy and teachers. He was too proud to show up to class with a bruised face when everyone around him would have known how it happened. Jaehyun's legend that he was attacked by his father's political rivals made it laughable.
