The bed felt unusually cold. The room was barely lit by the full moon looking out through the glass, and Haein was standing by the open window, slowly puffing on his cigarette and staring thoughtfully at the street. Jisoo remembered falling asleep in the guy's arms, while telling him about her daughter. He was sincerely interested in hearing about her, and the girl once again greatly regretted not telling him about her in time. She was just afraid that Haein, deprived of motherly love and care from birth, would condemn her, because Jisoo made her own choice for herself and her child. But he understood her feelings and even said with care that he would like to meet this funny girl.
She didn't know how sincere his wish was. Maybe even these words were just said to please Jisoo, because right now the daughter occupied an important place in her life. But it was enough for her. Lying in his bed completely naked, resting her head on his shoulder, listening to his sweet whispering while rough fingers ran along his back, causing a wave of chills and pleasant excitement.
Without saying anything, Jisoo got to her feet and put his band T-shirt from the floor. Then she went up to the guy who hadn't heard her from behind and hugged him from back, locking her fingers on his bare stomach. She kissed the cold skin and pressed her cheek against it to listen to him inhaling the puffs of cigarette smoke.
Haein pulled his free hand out of his denim pants pocket and stroked her forearm with his palms, causing her to break out in goosebumps. He continued to look at the night city, not distracted from his own thoughts, which tormented him from the inside. Haein was trying to think over the options for how he and Jisoo would continue to be. Going out like all ordinary teenagers, is not going to work with them. And they weren't ordinary. An underage mother who's obsessed with ballet, and a low-level drug dealer who has serious anger control issues.
"I know what you're thinking," she said after a few minutes of hugging. Who knows if Haein will be able to stand so calmly next to her after what she's about to tell him.
Standing in front of the guy, Jisoo peered seriously into his moonlit face and stroked his prickly cheek with her palm. Haein seemed to her so grown up and tired of life. And she was afraid that it was her, who had made him so.
"Haein, do you remember your promise not to start any more fights, Haein?" she began and, jumping a little on the spot, sat down on the windowsill opposite him. Leaning back against the window, she felt the cold glass cool her from nerves sweat-covered back and crossed at her ankles her legs hanging over the floor.
"Which I managed to break," he grinned, extinguishing his cigarette on an ashtray in the corner of the window sill.
"And for that I had to... pay a fine, kinda," she muttered uncertainly, looking down.
"What do you mean?" he asked, wrinkling his forehead, and immediately lifted her head, gently holding the girl's chin with his fingers to look closely at her guilty face.
"Haein, I'm begging you not to mess with Jaehyun. I'm not defending him, believe me," she added immediately, anticipating what he might think out of jealousy. "But his father... Mr. Jeong must not find out about you, otherwise..."
"What kind of fine you have to pay, Jisoo?" He couldn't stop himself, already guessing the answer that's why his fingers on her chin clenched a little.
"That evening, when I asked Jaehyun not to tell his father about that fight, he demanded in return that I..." Jisoo didn't know how to formulate a sentence, even though she knew that no words would ever smooth the ugly truth of what happened. "Haein, can you promise..."
"And today's kiss?" He interrupted rudely, feeling how the short fingernails of his free hand, clenched into a fist, painfully dig into the skin of the palm.
