Jisoo didn't have to think long about what to say to the school nurse when she and Jaehyun brought injured Jisung to her office. On the way to the school building, she begged the middle schooler to lie to the nurse about who beat him and say that he ran into hooligans from a neighboring school.
Jaehyun didn't like her idea at all and only elicited a nervous laugh. He angrily told her that she should stop defending Haein and confess to herself that she was communicating with a very dangerous person. Fortunately for her, Jisung listened to her and said everything as she asked him, without hiding his loving look.
"I don't want to argue with you again, but you are a smart girl. At least you used to be," Jaehyun told her as they walked back from the nurse's office to the classroom. Jisoo gave him an evil look, frowning in displeasure. She did not need moralizing from the ex at all. "I think you yourself understand that this crazy person needs good treatment, not a meeting with my daughter."
"Our," she corrected him, although she mentally agreed that Haein should not be introduced to Dalbi just yet.
She will have a serious conversation with a guy, in which he is simply obliged to somehow justify himself to her. Jisoo was too unsure of him right now. What if Haein lashed out at someone in front of her daughter like that? What's worse, if someone was the girl's father.
Upon entering the classroom, Jisoo and Jaehyun bowed and apologized for being late to class to the teacher, who allowed them to sit down. The girl was very surprised not to see Haein at their desk, and, worried, sat down.
"Probably beating up someone from the primary school somewhere," Jaehyun grinned venomously, noticing the confusion in her eyes, and sat down at the desk in front of her.
"Shut up and don't run into me beating you up," she whispered back to him, pulling out her phone in the hope of seeing Haein's message about where he was.
"This maniac is affecting you very badly," Jaehyun remarked, but Jisoo was no longer listening to what he was saying.
Despite what happened, she wanted to be by Haein's side. To talk to him, to understand his motives, to help somehow. She knew he needed it now. Jisoo saw it in his eyes when she, Jaehyun and Jisung left the backyard. Haein couldn't even move, frozen as if rooted to the ground. His eyes told her how much he regretted what he had done. She wondered if Jaehyun was right and if Haein really required professional help. Whatever it was, she had no right to throw him the way others did. She will prove to him that he is not like his father.
It was impossible to get distracted by the lesson, so Jisoo could hardly sit still before rushing out of the classroom with the bell and not even noticing Jaehyun calling her. She did not know where to run, because Haein did not answer calls. Jisoo wasn't even sure if he was in the school building. But her legs automatically led her towards the gym.
Opening the door, she heard the sound of a heavy ball hitting the acrylic floor. Sticking her head through the narrow doorway, she peered into the dark court and saw Haein throwing a basket-ball into the basket. He did not hear how Jisoo went inside and silently stomped on the spot, not daring to approach. Haein now looked really lonely and abandoned, which made everything inside her shrink from the bitterness that had accumulated because of resentment for the beloved guy. He probably wouldn't want to be like that. And he wasn't. Jisoo saw him from the best side, she did not consider him bad for herself.
"Haein," she called out hesitantly and shuddered a little as the ball hit the floor once again with a loud sound.
He quickly turned to the girl and looked at her guiltily, furrowing his brows. Haein didn't know if there were words in the world that could tell her how sorry he was. He was already very guilty before her, and it seemed that every day he, instead of correcting the consequences of his actions, only made things worse.
