Breaking into the memorial hall, Haein almost ran into a woman at the entrance, but without apologizing and taking off his shoes in a hurry, he went inside and went straight to the right room. Jisoo was sitting on the floor wearing a black hanbok with her face buried in her knees and crying quietly. Next to her was Jaehyun, who, seeing the boy, abruptly jumped to his feet. But Haein, ignoring him and all traditions of showing respect to the deceased, approached to the girl with one quick step and fell on his knees in front of her.

"Jisoo," he whispered, barely touching her shoulder with his fingers.

She slowly raised her head to him. Tears hailed from her red eyes, mingling with snot on her face and lips. Strands of hair stuck out of a sloppy topknot on her head. And her eyes desperately demanded help and salvation. Before she realized that Haein had finally appeared, he hugged her tightly, pressing her whole body to him. But it wasn't enough for her or him.

Jisoo burst into tears harder in his chest, crying loudly to drown out the inner screams of a broken heart that had been mercilessly abandoned to its fate. She thought that when Haein came, she would feel better because the realization that she was now all alone was slowly destroying her and cutting off all her organs with an invisible knife, making her only wish for an end to these torments. But the pain didn't want to let her go, no matter how Haein was trying to take it away from its captivity with his hugs and calming back strokes.

"She died", she whispered through her sobs and tried to look at the guy to see comfort in his eyes. Maybe he would tell her it wasn't real. She'd love to believe it. "My mother died," she repeated, swallowing the salty liquid that was accumulating on her lips, and often blinked her sore eyes, which burned, not allowing her from looking into beloved face. "Haein, how am I... what is... she's... Haein..." The words refused to form into a full sentence, but continued to come out of her swollen lips in the hope that it would be possible to somehow get rid of any part of the received burden.

"I'm with you, Jisoo," he said, feeling that it was important for her to hear it now, and lightly kissed the top of her head, holding the girl's head to his chest. "I'll always be there for you."

She nodded wearily, completely limping in the guy's arms. After her mother died, she sat in the hospital's memorial hall all night, not for a moment stopping crying. Her body ached from exhaustion, and it was hard to breathe, but she couldn't calm down to even drink water, which Jaehyun ended up forcing her to do. And now, sitting next to Haein and gasping air, Jisoo could feel her crying getting quieter and her body relaxing in his strong supporting arms. She began to feel sleepy, and most likely she would have fallen asleep, but there was still a fire of pain burning inside, mixed with the cold of emptiness and abandonment. Only this uneven tandem of opposite temperatures kept her conscious.

"I should have come earlier, I'm sorry," Haein said, when Jisoo stopped crying and only sniffled, trying to fill her lungs with oxygen. He was afraid to let her go in fear that she would again burst into tears in the agony of suffering.

He himself wanted to weep at how the world was unfair to his beloved. Haein knew better that anyone what the death of a parent was like, but the pain and despair of the girl are not comparable to his case. He began to lose his father even when he started drinking, and slowly got used to the idea of becoming an orphan when he fell ill. On Jisoo this burden fell suddenly, unfairly, and he was not allowed not give up his tears in front of her, showing how hurt he was for her. Haein must be strong next to her.

"Haein." Jaehyun's heavy hand landed on his shoulder, and Haein immediately looked up at him. "I think you should bow down to Ms. Kim," he said quietly and tried not to betray his envy of him, because he could not calm Jisoo for several hours, as a classmate did it in just twenty minutes.
