"Jisoo, hi," the guy's timid voice surprised her. Answering a call from an unknown number, Jisoo had a slight hope that maybe she was being called from the academy to convince her to come back.
Tomorrow was the last day she could give her final answer about Jaehyun's proposal. And if Jisoo was told that she was not being expelled, then it would help her quickly make a decision.
"Oppa?" She briefly glanced at Jaehyun sitting next to him, who tensed in place and listened carefully to her. He quickly guessed that Jisoo was now talking to the student who was at her mother's wake and could not predict what this guy might say to her. It took a lot of effort for Jaehyun to convince his parents to let Jisoo stay for one more night, during which he planned to get a positive response from her.
"Jisoo, I know... I know you can't even see Haein right now. But I had to at least try my chance. Talk to him, please. He got blotto and came to my workplace in the club. We need to get him out before he messes up here. He can't... well, you understand. He's not supposed to be seen here," Jungsuk chattered in a barely intelligible way that Jisoo didn't quite understand his words.
She remained silent and bit her lips in turn. Jisoo wasn't mad at Jungsuk for reaching out to her. On the contrary, once again she thought that her mother was lucky that such a person was in love with her. After all, Jungsuk, knowing full well that Jisoo was deeply offended, was not afraid to call her for the sake of his friend. And although the girl understood that she should also hate Jungsuk, because he most likely was aware of what Haein was doing, she still nodded positively, promising to come.
"Where are you going?" Jaehyun asked her in a stern voice, raising his eyebrows in disbelief.
They sat in the kitchen and fed Dalbi in the evening. Jisoo fed her, and Jaehyun was just afraid to leave her alone in this house because his mother could say unpleasant things to her. Worst of all, Jisoo could have given her an equally decent response. And the scandal in the mansion would hardly have helped him in his intentions to take the girl with him to Russia.
"It's none of your business," Jisoo replied curtly, hurriedly wiping Dalbi's lips with a tissue, and tossed the plate into the sink for the housekeeper to clean up afterward. She got used too quickly to the fact that other people did all the housework in this house, and this frightened her.
"No, it's mine, damn it," Jaehyun said angrily in a low voice and cast a short glance at his daughter, regretting the last word he said. "It is now eleven at night, and the mother of my child is heading somewhere. Do you think my father won't ask where you've gone? What am I going to tell him, huh?"
"Tell him that she followed in her mother's footsteps!" Jisoo whispered in the same angry tone, snapping.
Over dinner, Jaehyun's mother managed to throw in not-too-subtle hints a few times about how promiscuous her mother was for failing to raise her daughter properly. And that, instead of such a mother, it is better to have only a father from a wealthy family and governesses, clearly trying to show Jisoo that Dalbi would do well without her in St. Petersburg.
"Jisoo, stop it," Jaehyun said, softening a little, because he knew that her mother's words hurt her and very much, although she did not show it. Jisoo definitely has a hard time living in his house, but since she still went back to the mansion despite that, it means she still hasn't forgiven Haein. "I'll go with you."
"Are you crazy?!" Jisoo was horrified and cleared her throat as the housekeeper entered the kitchen with a tray containing cups and a kettle of tea. Jaehyun's parents drank chamomile tea every night before bed, which means they must be going up to their room now.
Jaehyun realized that Jisoo was thinking the same thing. To exit the mansion in secret without telling the elders. He didn't know how good of an idea this was, because if his father eventually found out about this impudence, Jisoo might no longer be given that small chance she continued to play in her hands, delaying the moment of giving her answer.
