There an individual stood looking at the sunset from one of the planets they currently docked beside. He was a lone figure too conflicted for his own good, wondering what his purpose was in this universe. Not having much of an understanding, he knew there was more out there for his own good but what? Gently he pressed a hand against his stomach, it made him smile. He still hadn't told his partner, his lover, that he would be a father. Although it was against the rules, he couldn't care for rules as he was a medic not some rule creator. The Council could suck it up for all he cared, he would be having his child even if it meant he was a deserter and turned his back on all he fought for. If it meant his child lived, so be it.
A ping on his communicator made him look at it with tired eyes. It seemed there was no rest for the wicked. Oh god, he wished he could just up and leave but duty calls. Quickly wiping his mouth, he turned and headed for the medical bay of the Venator-Class Star Destroyer. Another ping urged him forward, he quickened his pace until he reached the doors and inwardly sighed. Here he was standing in reality again.
For a few weeks now, soldiers had been brought in suffering from the same symptoms. He personally believed it was a virus going around but it only seemed to happen to the ones who had gone down to the toxic planet. Being a medic himself, he had reminded them all to keep their helmets on but when some of them refused to listen, it led to them being ill and in his medical bay. He had to bite his lip every time his mind screamed, 'I told you so' came to mind.
"Kix! Thank god! We have got a problem" Helix called out, he was the medic in the 212th who was currently onboard the same destroyer as the 501st. For more numbers or more like more patients for a snarky medic. Helix was also recovering from an injury which meant he got to work with the stubborn medic from the 501st.
"What is it?" Kix asked calmly for a change surprising Helix who frowned at his behaviour.
"We just got word Cody is down. Obi-wan is personally bringing him in, Kix we can't lose him if we do. Obi-wan will have our heads. I can't lose another brother. I just..." Helix was on the verge of a panic attack.
"Deep breaths Helix. In and out. That's it you've got it". Once Kix was sure of Helix's breathing returning back to normal he said, "Tell you what let me take Cody into my care. I will watch him for you. Take care of our other patients. Let me deal with Obi-wan" Kix reassured. Helix nodded once his breathing was in check he asked, "Are you alright? You look a little pale?" Kix only patted his shoulder and nodded, turning to assess one of his brothers who was recovering quicker than the others from wearing his helmet.
It didn't take long until the medical doors were almost slammed open as Obi-wan entered with Cody in his arms. Kix ignored the looks from the others as he gestured towards a bed. Once Cody was put down, Kix quickly got to work attaching medical equipment to the commander and sorting him out. Obi-wan lingered over the medic who just ignored the stubborn jedi. After about an hour, Kix turned to not only find himself addressing Obi-wan but Rex and Anakin as well. The medic couldn't be bothered to deal with their actual military ranks. He winced slightly ignoring the look Helix was giving him, he waved the other medic off.
"Status Medic?" Rex asked his 501st Medic, that was what he was to them not that Kix didn't mind. He was too furious at the minute.
"Commander Cody has developed the same virus that has been going around the rest of the clones. He will need to be heavily monitored in the medical bay..." Kix cut himself off as the doors to the room slammed open violently again.
"KIX!"
He would recognise that voice anywhere, turning around, Kix saw his partner Jesse manhandling Hardcase into a bed with Fives help. Echo lurked nearby. Kix moved away from Cody to check over Hardcase when he gasped. The scanners picked up what his eyes could not. Hardcase had something in his chest and it was killing him. Kix froze seeing one of his brothers with a piece of shrapnel in his chest. Helix nudged him to knock him out of his trance.
