As I stepped outside the cafe. The cold air slapping my bare body parts. I shivered, my teeth chattering because of it. I glanced at Steve and saw him staring at me.

"Where will you go now?"
"I don't know," I replied, shrugging my shoulders.

He raised his brows and I got a silent response. I turned around slightly dejected by the fact that I've to spend the night in the cold.

"You can stay at my place if you want?" I heard Steve's say which stopped me from walking any further and I turned around to see him.

He was looking straight in my eyes without showing any visible emotions. I fell into a dilemma. Should I trust him or should I not? Is it a way to lure me in his trap? But my girly sense wasn't really wary of him. I could sense some hint of sincerity in his proposal.

"Uh...but I'll burden you," I said it out of etiquette trying to sound like a responsible person.
"No worries, live alone anyways." He replies.
"But..."
"You want to come right?" He asks to cut me in the middle.

I looked down, nodding shyly. And from the corner of my eyes, I could see the corner of his lips turning upward in smirk. He leaned closer.

"DON'T WORRY, I'LL PROTECT YOU TILL MY LAST BREATH." He whispered in my ear.

His hot breath fanned my skin. It sent tremors in my whole body, my pulse throbbing in my head. I jerked looking up, covering the ear in which he whispered those words. My face is completely red. I gazed at the man with a scarred face smiling brightly at me. He reached out his hand grabbing my wrist with his warm hands.

"Come with me," He said and turned around gently pulling me with him.

"But why are you helping me?" I asked, trying to pull my hand away from his grip. He stops, turns to face me.

I continued, "What will you gain? You're a demon. You won't help me for no reason!"

A playful smile appeared on his lips, the tip of his fingers began twirling the strand of my hair.

"You're pretty, so I was planning on fucking  you...." as soon as the words left his mouth my body froze and I mechanically stepped back. He chuckled, and grabbed my wrist.

"Hey I was joking. You're not even my type!"
"Th-then...why?" I stuttered.
"I don't really have a reason you look pitiful,"
"Wh-what?" Those words sounded fancy coming from the demon. Is it some kind of fetish?
"I want to help you..."
"But you're a demon."
"So what does that mean?"
"Why are you being kind?"

He became quiet, staring at me silently for a few seconds before a sigh escaped his lips.

"Do you know how to cook?"
"Uh... a little."
"How about cleaning and laundry?"

I stared into his red jewelled eye. "Are you looking for a maid?"
"Yeah!" He bluntly replies.
"I can do everything. Cooking, cleaning, laundry and groceries. But I'm scared of going to big places because there are chances I might get caught."
"Good! What's your name?"
"Diana!"

He brought me to his house. It wasn't big, a small apartment which had joint living and dining space and one single bedroom. There wasn't a lot of furniture. Just a sofa, coffee table , TV, small circular dining table and kitchen utensils. A bed in the bedroom and a small closet.

He was no generous person, a demon obviously. What was I expecting? He asked me to sleep on the couch. I didn't protest cause I had a roof over my head. It was already enough. Every morning, I had to get up early before him and cook a meal, clean the house and do laundry. And occasionally be a nurse and treat his injuries whenever he returns home. There was nothing more, nothing less. Our relationship was that kind. I was always grateful for providing for myself. A stranger.
We weren't really close on an emotional level.

Until one day. It was raining heavily and after doing all my chores. I was sitting on the couch wrapped in my blanket munching on chips. When I heard the knock on the door, I gazed at the clock. Steve was home. I quickly got up and made my way to the door.

As soon as the door opened, I felt a huge weight falling on my body. I stumbled back holding the wet body tightly making sure he didn't fall. Steve was home again, injured. At this point I was used to it. I barely managed to close the door and dragged his bulky, wet body to the couch.

"What the hell do you do to get injured like this? And why can't you heal?!" I blabbed in frustration. I caught my breath and quickly went to the bathroom to get a first aid kit and some towels.

"I'm sorry, you've to see this." He said. I ignored it while dressing his wounds. But I could feel his gaze on me as if he wanted an answer.
"No worries, I can do at least this much."
"But… I really wonder. Why does your wounds take so long to heal? Aren't you a demon?" I asked, knowing that I would not be answered.

"I can't heal because I'm cursed which reduces the speed of healing." He replied. I shot my head to look him in the eye. But he had already closed his eyes, a pathetic expression plastered in his face. I saw him looking so dejected for the first time in my life.
"Huh?" I really wanted to ask. Why was he cursed? But, I thought. I shouldn't and so I bit my lips to keep myself quiet and did my work.
When I bandaged his wounds, I kept things back in the first aid box and got up to leave. But he grabbed my hand.

"Won't you be my curious little cat again and ask more?" His eyes were black rimmed and startling, with a striking shade of red shining with barely restrained emotions. He looked like he was in so much pain. I almost couldn't breathe.

He pulled me on his lap and wrapped his arms around my waist hiding his cold face in the crook of my neck, I sighed feeling his cold skin against mine. After a moment, he began to tell me his life story which brought us closer than we already were.
