Cooper's P.O.V.
I waited patiently as the Librarian kept shuffling through different pages as he said
"No, not this one, this is the original origins of- let's not say the name, let's see, where is it? Ah, here." He stopped at a page, and I noticed he skipped a section of the book he has.
I gag as he licks a page and then continues,
"This is the origin of what happened for this grand change. Don't worry about the other sections. Those pages remain locked for a reason." I frown as the pages have chains around them. They glow a dim red as they look enchanted with an ancient spell.
"This all started long ago when the island, our safe getaway, was discovered by the five founders, who, with their great intelligence, helped us form the Kingdom we have today. The two kingdoms founded, the Spade Kingdom and the Sprite Kingdom, worked together in a peaceful alliance for many years until some bad news passed to us all." I nod as he grows almost sad, remembering his own experience. He must have been around at the time.
"One of our founders, Merci, decided to go get supplies for our little forming kingdoms as we all worked on a festival to thank him as he is the one who founded the island and let us come into his paradise. He didn't return, so your grandfather Cody went to look for him, seeing how the two were always inseparable since the beginning. Cody came back with the corpse of Merci. Humans had found out he held some 'sorcery' in their fear and anger towards something they found dangerous. They came together to kill what made them feel inferior. It was a dark day and the start of a new era." This story got depressing quickly for an introduction.
The Librarian turned the book to show me how different things were. It looks all so ancient, but no one's happy in the pictures after the death of this founder. The Librarian pointed at photos from before the tragedy, showing how cheerful everything was. They weren't black and white like one would expect. They were surprisingly full of color that stuck out as it was pure nonsense recorded in these. The old geezer looks younger and friendlier. Surprisingly, he can make connections with people, if anything.
There were more pictures the Librarian brought out as he grinned and showed off how young he was as well, showing a younger version of him licking a book. It seems he was always like this with books.
"You know, we were all so scared. Merci led us all even if he were younger than the eldest founder, your grandpa. But somehow, even as things got dark and we worried about what the founders would choose to make up for this loss, the surprise was immense by how long it took on what we would do after the loss. Yet, the new era seemed bright when the founders all came to Cody, who felt the worst about the loss, bringing him comfort as they reassured us all that they'd work hard and get to meet Merci on the other side once their work helps build the foundation of our homes." That sounded great, but he didn't change his attitude as he told me this.
The Librarian looked remorseful. He flipped to the next page as he sighed, then continued for me.
"Things got worse in short. Founder Matthew never stopped blaming the first Four Leaf, Chuckles, for Merci's death. The two were known to fight about anything and everything as they ruled over the Spade Kingdom in Merci's place. Things could have been fine if those two didn't always try to find fault in one another. The details left out whether or not Cody or founder Mumble tried intervening is irksome!" The Librarian shouts out as he shows how upset he is by the lack of detail.
This guy is a nutcase.
"It got worse as founder Matthew demoted the Four Leaf species by making them a species where the qualification for them every lifetime is that there at least be one every century. The most Four Leafs since then have been you and your eight other siblings, a strange phenomenon, but before you all, there was only ever one Four Leaf every 100 years or never more than one. As soon as the current one dies, it's told that in any way or form, a new one takes its place in the same minute the previous one dies. Founder Chuckles spurned this idea, and it caused a rather violent battle between the two founders. Though it is a debate whether the fight was fair, it was logically unjust as founder Chuckles fought for the cause of future Four Leafs against several other Spades with founder Matthew. The battle between the two went as one would expect, with founder Chuckles meeting defeated as he got blamed for founder Merci's death alongside this fight." That's bullshit. How does this shift the blame on Chuckles?
