Ted's P.O.V.

I know Cooper went with the Librarian, but I hold no attention to it. I stared at Sarid's portrait as I felt pain and joy. He held a smile as the portrait was of his wedding with that bastard, Lead. He never appreciated Sarid. He always knew of my feelings and only married him to make fun of the fact he took Sarid from me.

Sarid held a pout as his eyes showed disinterest as Lead had him pulled close, a smirk on his face. It was a perfect professional marriage for those who knew of the arrangement. They otherwise looked like a match made in heaven, always in love when out in public, but I remember him crying to me over the phone, about how he had no choice on his side of the arrangement. He never video-called me as he always said he wasn't presentable. It felt sad to see what he looked like after all these years.

I remember our last interaction before his wedding, Sarid looked so resigned, yet always so full of wisdom. Reminding myself, Martin, and Shane that even if he was to be killed, he trusts that we'll care for the Kingdoms. I tried reaching him on his day of demise, but Cody reassured me he would go. I wish I didn't listen. I wish I had gone to witness his last moments. He always feared dying alone.

I can't even do anything right as I let Nick, his son slip past me, he died during the first month with us. I failed Sarid, and even now, I can't control any of his kids as he could. They don't see me as someone that close to them, they are all heading down different paths. I wish they would see that I care. I don't try at this point, I am not the first person you'd think of when you want help, I am in a literal wheelchair. The only disabled person here or in my species in general, it sucks.

It's odd how most wouldn't count on me for help from a glance, but I worked hard to get the job I currently have. It seems the job of the right-hand man is always to bring in outcasts. I couldn't even stop Cooper from turning into that monstrosity or stop him when he awoke from his imprisonment. I understood the look in his eyes as he awoke. I remember feeling fear when his dad did it in front of me for the first time. It's scarily powerful how such a weak person can turn into nightmare fuel with this power. It even gets more energy when a user who isn't suited for it uses it, it sucks away their life force into new magic it uses to improve itself, and it holds no respect for its host.

It travels to every vein in the body and gains control of every cell in the body, the host may feel in control, but it is far from true. Cooper may feel like he has it all planned out, finding out those secrets that I know of, but he doesn't realize it's better to not see what's behind all the work we do to keep Cody's system going for generations. There hasn't been one generation so far that has beaten Cody in any way, even my closest friends stay in the dark as they all smile and laugh out of these castle doors with the lies they are given, the things we've hidden shall stay hidden for who knows how long? My mentor knew them, as do I now, Cole shall know it too and not be able to even tell Cooper of them.

We may blend into the background, but that's what helps us with our jobs of making sure everything is covered from peering eyes that can't look away. I turn away from the portrait of Sarid and look at the portrait of Cole that's in the right-hand man section. He and all the other portraits share a look in their eyes, it's neutral, but they all share the same information.

It's a shame, Martin, Shane, and I all know that the kids who we're training for Cooper will die sooner or later on the job. I glare at Cody as he looks at the library with interest, he notices my glaring, grinning ear to ear as he asks me,

"What's the matter?" I break eye contact. "That's what I thought. Keep your head down, Ted." Cody then checks his new reports, grinning at his victory.

I watch as he goes over them and glances at Nick and Blue, who are arguing over Nick's lost memory once again, it wasn't going anywhere new. Cody grins as he uses his magic to make Blue hallucinate what I see is what Nick used to be like, mocking Blue who trembled in place, as Nick remained cold to Blue's pain. The pain ended when the knights come in and shove a Sprite on the ground before them, I watched as the knights backed away, and Cody looked at the citizen with cold eyes that showed no remorse.
