ALESSIO

I was working in my office when there was a knock on the door and without awaiting my response, it opened and shut. Judging by the sheer confidence at this time, I knew it was Cassio, my right in command. I didn't need to look up from my files as I heard his footsteps approaching me. He sat in one of the seats placed in front of my table, stretched his legs out and huffed, "Hey."

I nodded and continued typing when he spoke, "What are your views on movies?"

"Isn't our life already one?"

"No, the movie in which we are the heroes."

I paused and took a few seconds and then responded, continuing my typing, "Always fictional. No man is ever a hero in their own life until and unless they look at themselves first instead of finding acceptance in the world to begin with. And then the journey starts. Some win, some lose. In my opinion? Both are heroes for actually trying."

He yawned, "It was a simple question, I didn't get my answer yet."

"Too tired already of the mafia life?"

"No. Sometimes, daydreaming helps. Wouldn't kill you."

"What if that actually kills you?"

He raised an eyebrow at me when I sighed and leaned back in chair, "Daydreams are false happiness, all those grains of love and peace that you yourself sprinkle on on whatever you like, according to your preferences and it is so fake. It is so different from the actual world which is hell and so, the daydreaming makes you fall in love with it. When you love something, you constantly want it right next to you, you daily want to just keep looking at it, want to experience it, feel it, make it a part of you and show it to the world that you are carrying it with you. It's so fucking beautiful that even the dull colours don't appear dull anymore because of the strong light being reflected by them. It........." I then whispered, "it destroys you. It fucking destroys you without giving you any hand to get up. It's all you then."

He was studying me closely and I didn't care if I was appearing vulnerable. He was my best buddy.

"I wish Julliana wasn't killed."

I shut my eyes close and rested my head back against the seat, "I so fucking wish so too. Everything would have been so different."

"Agreed. Everything. Neither would you have suffered, nor would have that innocent girl back at your home."

My eyes snapped open and I jerked my head up when I glared at him, "What the fuck did you just say?"

He raised his hand, "I don't care if you kill me or not, but this is me showing loyalty to you."

"By bitching about the way my life was ruined?"

He sat straighter and placed both of his arms on my desk, "No. Loyalty by telling you exactly where you are going wrong. Cool down for a minute and listen to me-"

"Did father put you up for this?"

His lips got into a straight line, "He doesn't need people to be messengers for messages between his son. He, so well, can engrave it into half a sausage and parcel it your way."

I rolled my eyes because he was right. How the fuck did dad manage to maintain such a position was beyond me.

Cassio looked at me, "You are hurting, Alessio."
