Before you say something: trust the process. Whatever is about to happen in this chapter is needed. Sure, you might not agree on a few things which will be revealed at the end of the book, but some were needed, and this step? Was required. Alessio DID abuse Avelina mentally and he still DOES need to pay for those. He STILL remembers the past and cannot find himself letting go of them or being okay with them still burning in his brain. So he needs this, and Avelina needs this to rise to power.

ALESSIO

My parents and I, were still not on talking terms. Since the moment I told them about what I did, we had completely stopped talking to each other. No calls, no messages, no texts. Nothing. I had completely blocked them and my entire family from everywhere which was easier for me.

Easier to cut off all ties.

The lesser I had around me, the lesser I disappointed and the lesser waited in anticipation for my movements. Lesser the people who were interested in my life.

I didn't want that. I never appreciated people meddling in my life, seeing where I stood, what was I doing, what was I upto and what were my future plans. I hated talking, hated dealing with people and hated sharing. It was annoying, pathetic and an invasion of my privacy and comfort. I didn't appreciate that.

The only one who did was Cassio and I was fine by it. He usually never crossed boundaries and the moment he would know that I was about to lose it? He would drop the subject. And I was grateful for that. I didn't need to face another situation where I lost a person.

I looked out of my office window, clenching and unclenching my fist. I wanted to teach Avelina self defence myself but I had decided not to. I didn't want to accidentally do something which would throw her back to her deepest nightmares with me. I wanted to touch her, hug her, kiss her, hold her and spend time with her, but all came with the same questions and the same fears.

And hence?

I stayed away. I kept my distance to avoid every unnecessary hurt.

I breathed in deeply, letting out a heavy sigh when there was a knock on my door. I immediately hardened my face, guarded my emotions, straightened my back against my suit coat when I turned around, my hands in my pockets, clenched fucking tight into fists when I roared, "Come in."

Cassio came in and smiled, "Hey, you good?"

I squinted my brows, "Yeah. Why?"

"You didn't come for breakfast."

"I didn't know the entire house needed my blessings just to fucking eat."

There was some coldness and harshness in my voice when he closed the door behind and cautiously approached me. Standing near my table, he asked, "Are you sure you're okay? You can talk to me."

"I'm fine."

"Are you-"

"I'm okay, Cassio. I've always been."

An emotion crossed his eyes but he blinked it back fast. I cleared my throat and turned back to the window to gaze outside, "I'm leaving for Australia in a few. Keep Avelina, yourself and Jamie safe."

"What do you mean, 'in a few'?"

I checked my watch and replied, "A few hours."

"Why?"

I turned around exasperated, "Why can't I? Why can't I just fucking leave for a few and do my own thing? Why do I need to constantly be in this shithole and see the same faces everyday, do the same work everyday. Why the fuck can't I? You went out for vacations, you got engaged to someone you love and someone who loves you back, you got a son and what the fuck not. And suddenly, me wanting to go out for a few is a problem for the entire Romanno house. Like seriously, dude? Can't anyone here even breathe without me slicing their throats apart? What the fuck is wrong with a million here?"
