ALESSIO
"You. You make me cry. You make me upset."
My brows furrowed as I squinted my eyes at her, "Excuse me?"
She pulled me closer and whispered, wiping her tears away, "Why are you doing this to yourself?"
"Doing what?"
"Beating yourself."
My eyes softened not because of self-pity, not because that I felt bad for myself or my past....but because that I couldn't control it enough for my sister to worry about me. The sister who just gave birth, who right now should be sitting with her husband, her parents and her first born admiring the second born now. But here she was, crying over an already accepted loser.
I chuckled and pinched her cheek, "You don't have to worry about me-"
"But I do."
I sighed when she spoke, "You'll kill yourself this way and I can't bear that. Alessio," she cupped my cheek when I leaned my head in as she whispered, "don't complicate something which doesn't need complication. Don't harden something just because something similar happened in the past. Yes, a person needs to stay alert whenever similarities come along but trust me, the outcomes are not always the same because the processing is not always the same. Ingredients for all types of cupcakes are similar but the method of baking is different for all and hence the outcome."
"They are all cupcakes."
She smacked my head, "The flavour, you dumbass."
I chuckled and then grew quiet when when she sighed, "She is the past, you need to move on. Don't let the curtain of it blind you from the present."
I was quiet and listening to her when she sighed, "She is the past, you need to move on. Don't let the curtain of it blind you from the present."
"Sister-"
"No Alessio, listen to me."
I fell silent, lowered my head and nodded when she placed her fingers under my chin and lifted my head up, "You can be happy, Alessio. You can be loved, you can love and you can always have the life you want. You can have a loving and an amazing spouse, beautiful kids and a wonderful family. All you have to do is go easy."
I whispered back, "I had it."
"Honey, the past rarely repeats itself."
"That is an outsider to the mean. Past majorly repeats itself."
"Because of the same mistakes made. You don't do it."
"When did I make a mistake the first time for it to be repeated again?"
"The day you decided to wed that girl."
I did not respond when she smiled sadly at me, "You never know when she might be the one for you-"
I spoke a bit harshly, "The right one for me is under the-"
"Lucky ones can get it the second time. But the unlucky ones are those who lose it right when they had it."
I took in a breath and slumped my shoulders when she gave my hand a squeeze, "Let go of some of the weight, it will be refreshing. You are hurting others in the process of trying to gain control which quite frankly, is turning into the opposite. Things are slipping away from your hands."
I looked at her, "Dad never faced this issue yet he did the same."
"Dad never had the childhood that he gave us. Two completely different scenarios. And even with his being harsher than ours combined, look at how he treats mother. Please Alessio.....get back on track. You can be the best mob boss and still be the best husband on earth. Father and Salvatore is proof."
