AVELINA
I quickly crossed out the window, slammed the lid of the laptop close, plugged out the charging wire and ran and hid behind a curtain at the opposite end. I placed my hand over my heart to try to stop the noise of the racing heart from being heard when I heard my husband's voice followed by some men.
"Yes, and I need this meeting to end as quickly as possible."
I held onto the wall for dear life because the anxiety was killing me. I was almost certain that I'll fall drop any second and Alessio would find me snooping inside. He came and sat at his usual chair when he immediately frowned. I saw him breathe deeply a bit when his eyes went to the ashtray, then to the charging cable on the floor. His eyebrows squinted but he cleared his expressions almost there and then that it came as a shock to me. None of the two men sitting in front noticed this and I was amazed. How did he change expressions so quickly?
One of the men chuckled, "Strong smell of cigarette. Weird since you have been with us lately."
I pinched my eyes close before opening them up again, my hand on my racing heart, controlling it like no other when Alessio spoke, "Cassio sometimes comes here to smoke."
"In your office? Isn't that-"
"My rule? Yes."
They immediately shut up when Alessio started, "This meeting needs to remain as confidential as possible. One word out? I kill you both. Am I understood?"
They both spoke in unison, "Yes."
"So the thing it-" there was a knock on the door when my heart shrieked again because I feared somehow someone might discover me. Alessio allowed whoever it was to come in when someone entered. I couldn't see right now since I was hiding behind a curtain which was only visible to Alessio. His office in the house was like an L-shape. It was a straight room for his guests or whoever and then another small passage joined at an angle of ninety-degree in the row of where he sat. So at the place where I was hiding? Alessio was directly in front of me, but neither could I see the men, neither could they. And whoever came inside? I had no clue.
I heard footsteps when Alyssa came into view carrying drinks. She placed one in front of all when lowering her head, she spoke to Alessio, "Apologies for the bad cleaning, I got a bit late."
Confusion masked my face when one man laughed, "He just said his man, Cassio smoked here."
Alyssa looked up at him and immediately covered Alessio, "Yes sir, I don't smoke."
"Then what about the cleaning?"
She pointed to the laptop wire carelessly on the floor, "Sir Cassio watched over his room as I cleaned it quickly. Boss arrived earlier and I didn't get much time-"
Alessio interrupted, "It's okay, next time be quick. I wouldn't spare carelessness."
"Yes boss."
And Alyssa turned away, her eyes constantly moving left and right to try to find me when she left. Thank Godddddd this matter was temporarily put to rest. Taking their drinks, Alessio started, "I don't have much time, so I'll get straight to the point. My wife is being threatened."
My heart missed a beat and I clutched my chest harshly when Alessio continued, "She is my wife and I would do everything in my power to protect her at all costs. No harm comes to her be it whatever. We have joined alliances since extremely long, I want to make sure that it is still in place because one target at my wife? One launched target at my wife and I'm waging a war. I wouldn't back down and I would wipe out everyone if I must to ensure her safety. Are you still in?"
