Chapter 5: Death in the Family 2

Lee Tompkins the Medical Examiner walked into the morgue and got ready to examine the new body that came in. She walked over and unzipped the body bag to see Dr. Sarah Ivory lying dead on the table. Lee sighed and put her gloved hand on the side of Sarah's face. "Oh Sarah such a pity, you had such potential." Said Lee as she sighed and began the examination. He undressed the poor girl and started to feel around her neck feeling for how it broke. Then she started on the autopsy when Jim walked in.
"Hey Lee, what have you found so far?" Asked Jim as he watched her peel back the skin and muscle of Sarah's chest.
"Well, her neck broke in three different places whoever broke it had some serious strength but I can't tell if it was the strangulation or the broken neck that killed her." Stated Lee as she went to grab her bone saw the remove the ribs when suddenly she stopped. "What the hell!" Said Lee as she stopped and set down the saw. Lee quickly put her hand against the girl's neck and looked terrified. "She's got a pulse!" Said Lee as she looked at Jim. She quickly started to sew up the Y cut she had made a long Sarah's abdomen. Then she and Jim waited for a moment, as they waited they could hear and see signs of life that were completely unexplainable. They could hear her breathing though shallow and obstructed sounding at first it slowly became normal over time. Her skin gained a life filled glow and her muscles occasionally twitched. Then suddenly she sat up gasping for breath, her breathing returned to normal and she sighed.
"Oh god where am I?" She asked as she turned and saw Lee and Jim sitting there staring then she looked down at her chest and saw the large stitches up Y cut across her breasts. "That's a new one." Said Sarah as she took a breath.
"I'm sorry can you please explain why you just woke up in the middle of an autopsy?" Asked Lee as Sarah sighed.
"When I was a child I came down with a severe illness that caused my death but my father, the Joker wouldn't accept it so he used his many ties in the Underworld and found not only a cure for my illness but a cure for death itself or at least for me." Stated Sarah as they gave her a confused look.
"What do you mean at least for you?" Asked Jim as Sarah sighed.
"I started looking into the medical benefits that the cure my father found could offer to the world but it only cured me because I have a certain refined enzyme in my blood that caused a chemical reaction which gave me immortality." Stated Sarah as they didn't exactly look surprised. "Most people look scared of me when I tell them I can't die." Said Sarah as she held the white sheet over her chest covering herself.
"Well people have been coming back from the dead in Gotham longer than Batman has been around, hell your Dad has come back at least 4 times over the years!" Said Jim as Sarah sighed.
"Yeah, well he was just faking it except for the first time that was more planned than anything else." Said Sarah as she hung her head. "So now what?" Asked Sarah as Lee looked at her.
"Since our victim is now alive can you tell us who did this to you?" Asked Lee as Sarah closed her eyes seeing flashes of her death. That vacant look in Daniel's eyes like he wasn't actually in control of himself, she knew he needed help not imprisonment but in Gotham that's all he was going to get whether he went to Arkham or Black Gate. Tears poured from her eyes as she thought about this. "Please, we only want to help you." Said Lee as she put her hand on Sarah's knee but she shook her head.
"No I won't do it! I won't be the reason he gets put away!" Said Sarah as she tried not to sob.
"Can you at least tell me what happened you don't have to say a name." Begged Lee as Sarah sniffled.
"Ok, he um.... He came to my door apologizing for something he did. He was trying to win me back but I didn't care I was so mad at him. I tried to close the door but I guess I made him mad or something because he barged into the house." Said Sarah as she could still feel his hands around her throat. "He wrapped his hands around my throat and just squeezed. He was yelling and screaming at me, he was so angry but I remember the look in his eye. It was like he wasn't actually there, like he wasn't present in his mind when he was doing it. He needs help. If he's not careful, he'll end up just like his father." Said Sarah sadly as Lee sighed then she and Jim walked out. Moments later they brought Sarah the clothes she was brought in with then she was free to go since they had brought her to the station in a body bag so only a select few saw her face when she was dead. Sarah went home and just cried really unable to control it, she was just miserable.
