Chapter 28: Genetic Perfection V.S Genetic Failure

Daniel, Sarah, and Adam arrived at the cabin where Oswald had been holding Hugo Strange. Daniel didn't bother knocking since it was his family's property but the moment Daniel stepped inside Hugo was filled with terror. "I know I wasn't on time but please can't we find another way to resolve. Please let me talk to Mr. Cobblepot, maybe for once he can be reasonable." Said Hugo as he seemed to be begging for his life which confused Daniel.
"What the hell are you talking about?" Asked Daniel as Hugo paused.
"Mr. Cobblepot didn't send you?" Asked Hugo as Daniel shook his head.
"No I came on my own accord but we definitely revisit that reaction later." Said Daniel as Hugo relaxed a bit.
"Then why are you here?" Asked Hugo as Daniel as he looked at Adam.
"This boy is dying and I think you can cure him." Said Daniel as Hugo looked at Adam then at Sarah and adjusted his glasses.
"You're that daughter of the Joker that became a psychiatrist at Arkham, correct?" Asked Hugo as Sarah nodded.
"This is my son Adam, he has the same disease I had at his age. I was hoping you could cure him." Said Sarah as Hugo stiffened.
"I've been known to work miracles, but what's in it for me?" Asked Hugo as Daniel glared at him.
"I'll let you go free, but if you don't I'll just give you some electroshock therapy until you cooperate." Said Daniel as everyone could feel the air become electric.
"How do you even know that I can help him?!" Asked Hugo as he backed up a little, he was frightened by Daniel.
"Joker gave me this, said that Victor Freeze stole it from an old lab of yours and when it mixed with Sarah's blood it cured her of death. I need you to make it again, the exact same stuff as before." Barked Daniel as he held the I.V. bag full of dried ruminates of a neon yellow serum. The label had Hugo's name on it and the ID code: PROMETHEUS.
"This experiment was a failure, how could it have possibly saved her life?!" Demanded Hugo as he held the I.V. bag in his hands.
"I've been told I have a special mineral in my blood, a man named Ra's Al Ghul used mineral water with Dionesium in it to bring himself back to life every few hundred years. I suspect my father had been introduced to the concentrated form of the mineral water and other chemicals so now it's seeped into our genetic code." Said Sarah softly as Hugo hummed as he turned away.
"I'll do it, on one condition." Said Hugo as he turned to face them.
"I don't think you're in a bargaining position Strange!" Barked Daniel as the lights flickered above them.
"What do you want?" Asked Sarah as she put her hand on Daniel's shoulder giving him a note of calmness.
"I want to keep a pint of your blood." Stated Hugo as Daniel wanted to tell him no but Sarah immediately said yes so Daniel trusted her.

Hugo immediately got to work on the serum. He created two pints of the stuff on Sarah's request. One pint was hooked up to an I.V and given to Adam the other Sarah held onto. Sarah knew from her experiences that Adam would have to experience death before he could be healed. While Sarah sat with Adam in the car Daniel talked with Hugo. "What are you going to do with me now?" Asked Hugo as Daniel tapped off the ash on his joint.
"I'm gonna let you go like I promised." Stated Daniel as Hugo hummed.
"You're not even going to ask why I was being held by Mr. Cobblepot?" Asked Hugo as Daniel took a drag off his joint. "Or do you already know?" Asked Hugo as Daniel exhaled the smoke through his nose.
"I wouldn't say I know but I can suspect..." Said Daniel as he looked down at his gloved hands. "I'm not stupid, I know how Oswald feels about people like me. He doesn't seem to care that I didn't want this! I didn't ask those nut jobs to do this to me but he's still afraid of me... I don't know if he'll ever see me the same again." Said Daniel as he took another drag off of his joint and tapped it out.
"I can still take them away, if you'd rather not have them." Said Hugo as Daniel was unresponsive. "Your father is a dangerous psychopath with no regard for anyone's life but his own and the people he loves. Despite being one of Gotham's most dangerous tyrants, he's quite the family orientated person." Said Hugo as he sighed. "Despite the fact that your conception was purely a plan to make your father have a helpless little weakness doesn't make you any less important to him and honestly I find it incredible that instead of wanting to kill you like he did with my creations, he wanted to help you." Said Hugo as Daniel looked up.
"Are you really defending him after he kidnapped you?" Asked Daniel with a smirk as Hugo sighed.
"I do not harber any negative feelings towards Mr. Cobblepot despite all he's done to me because I hurt him first." Said Hugo as he shook his head. "I was told that Mr. Cobblepot would be a threat to my employer's work so I had to disable him from being a threat." Said Hugo as Daniel started to clue in why Ed didn't want him anywhere near this man. "I psychology tortured him into being docile and innocent and so now I'll do whatever he says so he doesn't kill me for my actions." Said Hugo as he hung his head.
"That's smart honestly, Oswald holds grudges forever." Said Daniel as he started to walk away. "Oh by the way-" said Daniel as he turned just slightly. "You don't need to find a cure for my powers, I kinda like em." Said Daniel with a smirk.
