Chapter 20: Secrets from the Dead

Oswald woke up early one morning and went to visit Daniel's grave as he missing him so terribly. He walked through the cemetery until he saw what was left of Daniel's grave. It was just a hole with Daniel's open coffin inside. "NOOOOOO!" He screamed as he looked down at the open coffin seeing a spray painted green question mark inside the coffin. "Ed!" He growled as he wasn't quite certain if he was going to kill his husband or not.

Oswald knew exactly where Edward would've brought Daniel, their old apartment so he showed up and barged in. He saw Edward and immediately pulled a knife on him pinning him to the wall. "You dug him up! ARE YOU COMPLETELY INSANE!?" Shouted Oswald as he pressed a blade against Edward's throat.
"Oswald I can-" Edward started but Oswald pressed the blade in deeper still not cutting him though.
"No! Daniel asked me just to drop it! I thought you would do the same! Not for me but for him!" Said Oswald as he was actually in tears over this.
"Oswald stop it you're making a fool out of yourself." Stated Daniel as he walked past them coming out of the bathroom shirtless drying his hair.
"Daniel?" Asked Oswald as he turned and saw Daniel drying his wet hair. "You're alive!" Said Oswald as he actually smiled.
"I told you I could do it, Oswald." Said Edward as he put his hand on his husband's shoulder. Daniel put the towel over his shoulders and sighed.
"Daniel tell us who hurt you and we'll take care of this." Stated Oswald as Daniel glared at him.
"NO! I ALREADY TOLD YOU THAT YOU CAN'T TAKE THEM ON! Just leave it alone!" Barked Daniel as the lights above them flickered a bit.
"Alright." Said Oswald as he didn't want to upset him anymore.
"Oh and thanks for burying me in my favorite suit, now I have to burn that." Said Daniel as he stared at the pile of clothes sitting on the table.
"Why?" Asked Oswald as Daniel looked at him.
"Because the smell of a rotting corpse is not something you can wash out." Said Daniel as he sighed.
"Wait, Ed how did you bring him back?" Asked Oswald as Daniel sighed.
"If you're worried about Sarah, she's gone, she left after I got in the shower." Said Daniel as he sighed and walked back to his bedroom.

He closed the door to his old bedroom and leaned against the door sliding down to the ground. He was thinking of the night he died. The night he had died they had strapped him to a chair and Sarah across from him she begged him to try and escape but he sighed in response. "Why bother!? If you don't love me then my life isn't worth living." Said Daniel as Sarah had tears streaming down her face.
"But I do love you! I never stopped loving you, you idiot! Don't you see that!? Please just try to get out of here! Please!" She had begged him over and over so he tried but it was no use. Her words rang in his head now more than ever. He wondered if she was just saying to motivate him or did she actually still love him? He sighed and laid on his bed.

Sarah went back to the abandoned warehouse where all of her fellow experiments had been staying. She went up the stairs into the foreman's office and sat down on a couch. Suddenly there was a knock on the wall by the doorway. "Yes?" Asked Sarah as Vanessa walked in.
"I'm really hungry." Said Vanessa as Sarah nodded and patted the spot next to her on the couch. Vanessa came over and sat down next to Sarah. Sarah pulled her hair over to the side and cocked her head to the side giving Vanessa access to her neck. Vanessa bit down on Sarah's jugular and her mouth filled with Sarah's blood calming her hunger pains. Once she was satisfied she watched the bite marks in Sarah's neck heal. "So what was so important that you had to run away?" Asked Vanessa as Sarah sighed.
"Daniel needed my help so I helped him that's all." Said Sarah as Vanessa smiled.
"Good."

After Daniel came back from the dead, Oswald went back to the manor because Edward and Daniel said they'd meet him there later. Oswald stepped inside and noticed that the door was unlocked. He quickly pulled a blade out from his cane and walked inside. Finally he saw a woman sitting in a black suit with a silver lapel, she had short black hair cut into a pixie cut and had long black nails. She was sitting in the parlor drinking Oswald's scotch. "Who the hell do you think you are!?" Barked Oswald as she set the glass of scotch.
"Abigail Dupont at your service." She stated placing her hand upon her chest. "Please sit, there's something I'd like to discuss with you Mr. Cobblepot." She stated as Oswald stayed standing, suspicious of this random woman. "Suit yourself." She stated under her breath.
"What do you want?" Demanded Oswald as Abigail set down the glass.
"I have a gift for Mr. Cobblepot." Said Abigail as she smiled in that sort of way that told Oswald that she couldn't be trusted.
"What's the catch?" Asked Oswald viciously as Abigail grinned even more like an untrustworthy snake.
"All I want in return, is everything. All your territory, your power, your people, everything you control in Gotham's Underworld and then the gift is all yours." Said Abigail as she held out her hands.
"That's a very tall order for a simple gift." Said Oswald as she chuckled.
"I think you'll change your mind when you see my gift, it's alright to come out now." Said Abigail as she had turned to the hallway that lead into the kitchen. Suddenly someone walked out and tears immediately fell from Oswald's eyes.
"Mother?" Asked Oswald a woman who had been dead for the last 30 years, a woman who died in his arms now stood before him looking as she did the day she died.
"Oswald!" She said as she opened her arms and hugged him. Oswald let go of her and looked at Abigail.
"Why would you do this for me?" Asked Oswald as he sniffed trying not to sound like he was crying.
"Mr. Cobblepot I believe in making friends to get what I want, as the old saying goes easily to catch flies with honey rather than vinegar. I want everything you have so the easiest way to get you to agree was to give you two people that you care about more than anything." Said Abigail as Oswald paused.
"Who is the second?" Asked Oswald as Abigail stood.
"I allowed Sarah Ivory to escape so she could give you Daniel back." Said Abigail as she walked up to Oswald. "So Mr. Cobblepot do we have a deal?" She asked holding out her hand. Oswald looked at her and then at his mother knowing she was once everything to him and it would hurt him worse to know that he had a chance to get her back and refused.
"Alright you have a deal." Said Oswald as he took her hand.
"Very good, I'll meet with you later to discuss the details until then enjoy your quality family time." She said as she walked. "Au revoir Mr. Cobblepot." She said as she left out the front door.

Edward and Daniel had some business to take care of before they could meet up with Oswald. They had business with Sarah and Joker, they wanted to be certain that they didn't owe the two of them anything and Daniel wanted to talk with her. Edward found the warehouse they had dropped off all of the folks that were being experimented on in Indian Hill. They walked inside and felt everyone's eyes on them. "What do you boys want?" Asked a girl with blonde hair.
"We need to see Sarah and Joker." Stated Edward as the girl looked at Daniel.
"That freak isn't here but I can show you to Sarah." Said the girl as she walked up some stairs and Edward and Daniel followed. They got up to an office and saw Sarah laying on a couch looking at the ends of her hair. "Sarah these guys are here to see you." Said the girl as Sarah looked over.
"Thank you Angela." Said Sarah as she sat up and looked at them. "What?" She asked in a cold kind of tone.
"We just wanted to be certain that we didn't we don't owe you or your father." Stated Edward as Sarah rolled her eyes.
"Of course that's the only reason you're here." She muttered as she stood. "No Edward you don't owe us anything, you helped me escape and in return I brought Daniel back there's nothing else to be done." Said Sarah as she turned away from them staring out the window.
"Have we upset you in some way Doctor?" Asked Edward as he was used to calling her that.
"I'm not a doctor anymore, Edward. Just leave me." Said Sarah as Edward did as instructed and left but Daniel didn't follow. "I thought I told you to leave!" She barked and turned seeing Daniel just standing.
"I want to know what you meant when you said that you never stopped loving me." Stated Daniel as she looked at him.
"You know what I meant." Said Sarah as Daniel shook his head.
"But I can't believe it! You've dozens of times that you hate me and then moments before I die you tell me you love me! That cannot be true!" He barked as she marched over to him.
"WELL IT IS OK! I can't help the way I feel about you!" Said Sarah as she started to cry but Daniel put his hand on the side of her face but they both felt some kind of shock so he removed his hand.
"I'm so sorry!" He said as he rushed away but Sarah grabbed his hand.
"No! Do it again!" She said with a smile as Daniel remembered every time the two of them had gotten physical it always resulted in him cutting her or stabbing her and he never understood why until now. She drug him into another room with a mattress on the floor and closed the door once they were inside.

Edward waited for a bit then got tired of waiting and went back up the stairs he found that the office was empty then noticed the side room, he gripped the door knob but he was close enough to the door to hear inside. "My god that was the best sex we have ever had!" Sarah squealed a bit.
"Well we have those Indian Hill experiments to thank for that." Said Daniel in a bit of a chuckle. "Does this mean that you and I are..." Said Daniel as Sarah sighed.
"Of course but let's just keep things between us for now, no need to get our Dads riled up over us being back together." Said Sarah as Edward smiled knowing that these two wouldn't mind that he knew they were back together because he actually liked seeing them together. She made Daniel happy and that's all Edward ever wanted for us son so it didn't bother him a bit that she was the daughter of the Joker so long as she kept the in line Edward didn't mind.

Edward and Daniel got in a car and drove back but on the drive back he looked over at Daniel. "What?" Asked Daniel as he smiled.
"I may have overheard you and Sarah talking." Stated Edward as Daniel sighed.
"Please don't tell Oswald!" Begged Daniel Edward held up his hand.
"Of course, you're secret is safe with me. I'm well aware of how Oswald feels about her so don't worry." Said Edward as he continued to drive.
"Thanks Dad." Said Daniel with a grin.

They arrived back at the manor and announced themselves. "Oswald we're home." Said Edward as Oswald ran over.
"Perfect, there's someone I want you both to meet." Said Oswald as he took their hands and pulled them into the room. "Edward, Daniel this is my mother." Said Oswald as he looked at her. "Mother, this is my husband Edward and our son Daniel." Said Oswald with such glee in his tone but both Edward and Daniel were utterly lost. Oswald's mother smiled and came over.
