Chapter 16: Losses

Through the transition of psychiatrist to inmate has been stressful, Sarah found much comfort in visits from Victor and Adam. Victor brought Adam in everyday and easily spent 3 hours a day just letting her see her son. She missed Adam terribly but she hoped sooner rather than later she would earn her certificate of sanity. Malcolm had told her in many sessions she was making great efforts in her rehabilitation but of course she insisted to keep Victor out of the loop on just how crazy she was because she knew he would judge her and she feared that his judgement would affect Adam into not wanting to see her anymore.

One day however Sarah did not wake, instead it was Iris which was normal because Sarah was no longer on her medication so she was used to losing time usually only an hour or two but today Iris stayed awake for the entire day.

Typically Iris tended to be herself but recently that had been getting her into trouble so she decided to be Sarah. She sat in the mess hall picking at her food when Joker sat next to her. "Hey kiddo." Said Joker as he sat next to her.
"Hi Dad." Said Iris in a perfect imitation of Sarah.
"You excited to see Adam today?" Asked Joker as Iris nodded.
"Of course he's everything to me." She said sweetly as Joker smiled but that smile quickly faded when both of them noticed Daniel was staring.
"What the hell does he want now!" Barked Joker as Iris sighed.
"I wish he would just leave me alone." She stated as she looked down at her plate then when no one else was looking she looked up at Daniel, locking eyes with him and winked trying to give him signals as Sarah.

The day went on and she continued to give him signals of pleasure like a partially concealed smile or just staring at him all when no one was looking so no one would believe him.

Eventually later in the Rec room both Joker and Edward were called away by their psychiatrists so no one was keeping an eye on their children.

"Stay out of trouble while I'm gone, I'd rather not explain to Oswald why you're in the Infirmary again." Said Edward as he stood.
"Of course." Stated Daniel as he nodded.

"I'll be right Sarah, if Daniel gives you any problems, knock some sense into him for your old man." Said Joker with a smile.
"Of course." Said Iris with a soft smile.

Once both Joker and Edward were out of sight Daniel stood and walked over to her. He slammed his hands down on the table in front of her upsetting the playing cards laid out on the table. "What the hell are you trying to pull!?" Barked Daniel as she looked up at him.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Stated Iris in an upset tone as to resemble what Sarah would sound like in such a situation.
"Oh cut the shit! I know it's you, Iris!" Barked Daniel as he swept the card onto the floor and sat down across from her.
"How the hell-!" She barked as Daniel glared at her.
"Sarah may not realize but I know her pretty well! Well enough to know the differences between her and you pretending to be her! Now what I wanna know is why!?" Barked Daniel as Iris grinned.
"Because destroying Sarah's life is fun for me." She said with a smile.
"How is flirting with me in any way destroying her life?" Asked Daniel as Iris sighed.
"If you know her so well then you already know the answer to that question." Said Iris as Daniel was completely lost. "Do you not know what she thinks of you?" Asked Iris as Daniel scoffed.
"Of course! She hates my guts!" Said Daniel as he slouched.
"She used too." Said Iris as Daniel perked up.
"What do you mean?" Asked Daniel as  Iris grinned.
"How about this, I'll tell you what Sarah truly thinks of you, if you do something for me and I promise Sarah will never find out, deal?" Asked Iris as Daniel sighed.
"Ok deal, now tell me!" Said Daniel as Iris wagged her finger.
"Not yet, first you get me a syringe full of Fear Toxin from the evidence locker, then I tell you." Said Iris as Daniel huffed.

There was a brief hour that allowed the inmates to walk freely in designated areas but there was a brief moment Daniel noticed that there were no guards watching the evidence locker for at least 10 minutes during the shift change. In that small window he acted and got the syringe then made his way back to Iris's cell. "There! Now tell me everything!" Daniel begged as she smiled and scooted over on her cot then patted the spot next to her telling him to sit down.
"Sarah used to hate your guts but after she found out why you broke things off with her well her feelings towards you changed." Said Iris as Daniel sighed.
"So she knows why I hurt her?" Asked Daniel as he hung his head.
"Yes and because of that she doesn't hate you anymore, you just make her sad." Said Iris as Daniel looked up.
"Why?" Asked Daniel as Iris cocked her head to the side.
"Because she knows no matter how much you want something you'll always give it up the moment Oswald Cobblepot asks you too." Said Iris as she stood. "Thanks for the help Daniel." She said as she leaned over and kissed his cheek.
