Chapter 19: Project Cleric

One day in the Rec room Edward approached Joker. "What?" Asked Joker as Edward sat across from him at the table.
"I want to help you find your daughter." Said Edward as Joker looked up from the playing cards on the table.
"Why?" He was suspicious of Edward.
"I'm certain you've heard of what happened to my son." Stated Edward as Joker nodded. "Well I'm aware that your daughter is immortal, do you think she could bring him back?" Asked Edward as Joker laughed.
"Of course she can bring him back, she did it when I killed him but the real question is why would she bring him back after he was the reason that my grandson is now God knows where with Zsasz!" Growled Joker as he took a breath and laid down another card on the table.
"That is a lot of information that I'm certain Daniel was not aware of." Stated Edward as he took a breath. "What do I have to do to convince you to help me?!" Demanded Edward as Joker chuckled a little.
"Oh I'll help because I'm not the one you have to convince." Said Joker as he put his elbows up on the table and grinned. "So what's the plan Eddie?"

While Edward and Joker were trying to find Sarah and bring back Daniel Oswald was honoring his son's last wishes. His men were helping him look through Daniel's room to find a suitable outfit to bury him in. "Hey Boss, Danny had a lot of drugs in here." Said one of Oswald's men as he pulled a shoe box out from Daniel's bed that had a lot of marijuana in it.
"Don't call him that!" Said Oswald as he opened up Daniel's walk in closet. He looked through Daniel's clothes and finally he stopped at Daniel's favorite suit. It was a dark black suit with a midnight blue and black floral print lapel with dark black shimmery buttons. He paired it with an all black dress shirt, a black black silver print vest, a deep blue tie with silver dragon print, a silver collar chain with dragon heads on the clips to the collar also adorning tiny blue sapphires on the eyes, a silver rose lapel pin, and black and silver Oxford dress shoes. He brought the outfit to the funeral home that was preparing Daniel for his funeral. Over the time that it had taken the GCPD to no longer need Edward's services, Oswald had the funeral completely prepared. As he watched them bury his son he felt so much dread fill his heart. Once Daniel was buried he stood over his son's grave and placed a bouquet of white roses just in front of the gravestone that read Daniel's name, birthdate November 6th and the day he died April 21st. Oswald wanted to say something but nothing felt right so he just walked away.

Late one night Joker and Edward snuck out of their cells and Edward led them to an empty hallway that was a dead end. "What are we doing down here?" Asked Joker in a whisper.
"The old Indian Hill Project had a secret elevator they used to go from the basement to Arkham without anyone knows, but I found it back when the first Indian Hill was run by Hugo Strange." Said Edward as he pried open the little cover for the keypad and entered in the code as it was still the same as it was before. The elevator doors opened and they stepped inside. As the elevator went down Joker could see that Edward was shaking with fear but didn't feel right mentioning it.

The doors opened and they saw a long hallway of cells but they looked different than before, the cell doors were made of very thick glass. As they walked down the hall they could tell that they were being watched. The feeling of eyes on their skin was unsettling as they walked further down. "Joker?" Asked a familiar voice from one of the cells.
"Vanessa?" Asked Joker as he turned and saw her sitting in the corner of a dark cell, her eyes glowed bright green. "Vanessa where is Sarah?" Asked Joker as she came a little closer.
"At the end of the hall." Said Vanessa as Joker nodded.
"Who was that?" Asked Edward as Joker sighed.
"Sarah's half sister." Said Joker as they kept walking. They finally reached the end of the hall and saw a large cell that was dark. "Sarah?" Asked Joker as something moved inside the large cell.
"Dad! Is that you?" Asked Sarah's voice.
"Hey kiddo! Look Eddie and I are gonna get you outta here." Said Joker as he put his hands on the glass and the lights inside the cell flickered on and they both horrified by the sight before them. Sarah stood in the center of the cell, her skin was white as snow so was her hair which was also matted and messy. Her eyes were the only thing that remained to have color in them, they were still that crystal blue that they had always been. "Sarah what happened to you?" Asked Joker as he put his hands on the glass.
"A lot but there's no time for that, Anita will be back soon I need you to press the button on the wall next to my cell." Joker nodded and hit the button suddenly the cell filled with Fear Toxin so Joker stepped back and grabbed Ed by the collar of his shirt pulling him back.
"I'd step back a few feet." Suggested Joker as Edward nodded though not quite sure why but he quickly realized Joker's concern for even Edward's safety as he watched Sarah throw punches against the thick glass wall and with each hit landed against the glass it cracked the glass until finally she one last hit and a sizable hole was left in the glass door. Sarah stepped through the hole and then ran over to the computer typing. "What are you doing we need to get out of here!" Barked Joker as Sarah glared at him.
"Not without them! If I'm gone they'll all be killed for my absence, I can't let that happen." Said Sarah as she hit enter on the keyboard and all the cell doors opened. "So why exactly are you hear looking for me, Ed?" Asked Sarah as she walked through the lab part of Indian Hill.
"Daniel's dead." Said Edward as Sarah nodded.
"I know, I watched it happen." Said Sarah as Edward looked at her.
"What were doing to my son!?" Demanded Edward as he grabbed her.
"It doesn't matter because it failed, that's why they killed him. Abigail said that witnesses were hassle and since he no longer interested Anita she insisted that he needed to die." Said Sarah as she forced Edward to let go of her.
"Anita realized I had a connection to him and I tried to escape previously so she punished me by making me watch him die." Said Sarah as she started to tear up.
"Do you think you can bring him back? Joker said you've done it before." Said Edward as Sarah wiped the tears from her eyes.
"I can do it better than I did before, this time with no side effects." Said Sarah as she went over to the case that held a bunch of sealed vials with clear liquid inside. She opened the case and took a couple of the vials shoving them in her pocket. "Ok let's get out of here."

They escaped out through the loading dock but Sarah went to look through Anita's office to find the keys to the transport truck instead of finding Anita she found Abigail Dupont waiting for her. "Are you gonna try and stop me?" Demanded Sarah as Abigail waved her hand.
"Oh no, I'm actually looking forward to your escape. I've gotten everything I've needed from you on the biology level of my plans so now I'll let you go so long as you give me the information I want." Stated Abigail as she held up the truck keys.
"What do you want from me?" Asked Sarah as Abigail grinned and stood putting her hands on the sides of Sarah's face.
"I want to keep me informed on everything your Daddy does then when the time is right, I'll give you further instructions but until then just keep me happy." Said Abigail as she kissed Sarah and placed the keys in her hands. "Au revoir ma douce petite espionne." Stated Abigail as she turned away and Sarah left.

Sarah let all of the others who were experimented on stay in one of Joker's old hideouts, promising she would come back to help them so long as none of them left the abandoned warehouse. Sarah got in the truck with her father and Edward then they drove to Gotham Cemetery. The three of them walked through the cemetery in the darkened night, Edward had a shovel over his shoulder and Joker carried a body bag. They finally reached Daniel's grave and Edward took the bouquet of flowers off of the fresh grave and tossed it aside. Edward then began to dig, Joker and Sarah watched him and only after the hole was about a foot deep did someone mention to him that he was in fact digging a 6 foot hole by himself. "Do you want help with that?" Asked Joker as Edward stopped panting from the digging.
"No it's actually helping me get over the grieving." Said Edward as he took a breath and then continued digging.
He got about 2 feet deeper before he took a break. He leaned against the wall of the hole and looked at Sarah. "You said that last time you brought Daniel back from the dead there were side effects, what did you mean?" Asked Edward as he put his glasses up on top of his head and rubbed the sweat that had collected on his face.
"Well my blood in it's pure unrefined form is a highly addictive substance because of the healing factor. Even when my body heals itself the vast amount of Dionesium in my blood gives me this incredible high as my body heals. All my senses are increased including my strength and agility, that's how I was able to punch down that glass with my bare hands. But when my blood is introduced to another person who doesn't normally experience such a high, they become incredibly addicted to it." Said Sarah as she sighed and hung her head. "I knew that when I brought Daniel back from the dead when my father killed him. After that first dose I had to keep supplying it to him in these small dosages, when he ran away with me I slowly weaned him off of it by giving him smaller and smaller doses until he stopped showing withdrawal symptoms." Said Sarah as she pulled one of the vials from her pocket. "But this was specifically engineered to take away the high that people get and just bring them back from death." Said Sarah as she looked at the vial. "It can also do something that my blood can't." She said as she put the vial back in her pocket. "See the high in my healing factor is in fact the sensation of my body keeping my cells from dying but this stuff is designed to revive dead cells and multiply those cells at a faster rate than normal so it can bring back people from just ash." Said Sarah as Edward nodded then went back to digging. Eventually he found Daniel's coffin and since Sarah was still on a bit of a high due to the Fear Toxin not being completely out of her system she and Edward got Daniel into a body back and carried him back to the truck.

They brought Daniel back to his first home where Edward raised him, Joker bailed on this not wanting to be around when Daniel woke up because he didn't want Daniel to get any kind of idea that he felt anything more than festering rage for him. They laid Daniel on a table and Sarah unzipped the body bag. As Sarah started to undress Daniel Edward realized she hadn't asked for anything in return. "Sarah, why are you helping me?" Asked Edward as Sarah unclipped Daniel's collar chain.
"What do you mean?" Asked Sarah as she unpinned his lapel pin.
"Last time you and Daniel were in the same room you beat the crap out of him and told him you hate him so after seeing that I just assumed you wanted nothing to do with him." Said Edward as Sarah sighed while she continued to undress Daniel's corpse.
"I did hate him but..." She started as tears streamed down her cheeks but then she quickly wiped them away. "I'm helping you alright just don't analyze it!" She barked as she continued to undress Daniel. Edward realized that something must've happened between the two of them before Daniel died so she must've forgiven him but it must've been so traumatic that she doesn't want to relive it just to explain it.

Once Daniel's bare chest and autopsy Y cut was exposed she took a small pair of surgical scissors and started to cut open the stitches that held his body closed. She opened him up then took one of the vials and sucked up the liquid into a syringe. She then took the syringe and injected it into Daniel's heart.
