Chapter 31: No Longer Dead

Daniel, Joker, and Adam stood in the woods around the unmarked grave that had been left for their beloved Sarah. Joker handed Daniel a shovel and Daniel glared at him. "Why do I have to dig her up?" Asked Daniel as Joker chuckled and sat on a log next to Adam.
"You're the strongest one here." Said Joker with a grin. Daniel rolled his eyes and started digging.
"So how are we gonna bring her back, Grandpa J?" Asked Adam as Joker sighed.
"It's a bit gruesome, are you sure you wanna know?" Asked Joker as Adam nodded.
"I'd also like to know." Said Daniel as he continued digging. Joker then went into detail about Omen's construction and how to disable its effects on her.
"Adam now that you're like your Mom, you need to know that if you ever see that gun pointed at you just run! Don't try to fight them, just run. Can you promise me that?" Asked Joker as Adam nodded.

Daniel kept digging down in the dirt for hours. Eventually long after the sun had gone down Daniel heard a sort of crinkle sound. "He buried her in a body bag." Said Adam in a grin tone. Daniel threw the shovel up onto the surface and started spreading the dirt off of the bag then lifted the bag and laid her up on the surface. Daniel climbed out of the grave and the three of them crowded around and unzipped the body bag. Daniel opened it up and inside was the corpse of Dr. Sarah Ivory. She was cold and lifeless, pale as death itself but yet no decay, her blood and body though appearing dead still looked freshly killed. Her blood was cold yet not coagulated it was still a liquid which felt odd but they still knew it was a good sign that she could still be brought back.

Daniel carried Sarah back to his car and laid her in the backseat with her head in Joker's lap. Adam sat in the front seat as Daniel drove. Joker sat in the backseat with the body bag open looking at Sarah's face. He was cradling her cheek in his hand and stared at her pale lifeless eyes. He had a sad look on his face that Daniel could see. "Look I know that's not how anyone would want to see their daughter but we're gonna fix this." Said Daniel as he glanced at the rear view mirror.
"That's not it, Danny Boy... The whole reason that damn bullet was invented was to keep Iris in line! After we used it once I never wanted to use it again! It was cruel even to my standards! We all loved Sarah so much and that's why this damn weapon was even created, to protect her from herself... What I don't understand is how Zsasz got a hold of one! Bats promised me that he had the last three bullets locked away where no one could find them! Let alone how he would even know about them!" Said Joker as he sighed. "I just hope she wasn't scared." Said Joker as he lifted her out of the body bag and held her close to his chest, her blood staining his suit.
"She wasn't, she told me everything was gonna be ok. She was smiling but she was also crying." Said Adam as he hung his head. The rest of the drive was very quiet, it was a shameful kind of quiet mostly because of Adam he had yet to tell Joker what he meant by his statement that he could have stopped this from happening. He wasn't sure how his new family would feel if they knew that he had the chance to wipe Victor Zsasz off the face of the Earth but he didn't out of fear. He knew his family members were more than capable of taking a life so would they be disappointed or even shun him for not taking the life of his own father, the man who raised him when he threatened his mother? He was terrified to know the answer.

Daniel kept driving not really sure where to bring them. "So where do we take her?" Asked Daniel finally as Joker thought about it.
"We'll take her to Wayne Manor, she'll be looked after there." Said Joker as he brushed one of her white hairs out of her face.

They pulled into the Wayne Estate and Adam felt like he had a pit in his stomach, it was his guilt, it was eating away at him. Bruce and everyone else came out of the manor with worried looks on their faces. Daniel stopped the car and went into the backseat and pulled Sarah out of the car. Everyone was horrified by the sight knowing that they had let this happen. Bruce held back tears as he gritted his teeth knowing he should not have underestimated Zsasz like this.
