Chapter 4: Dread of a Bleeding Heart

Daniel laid in his old bedroom from when he was a teenager staring at the ceiling. He was disheveled and miserable. He couldn't stop thinking of how much of an idiot he was for choosing Oswald over Sarah. He chose business over pleasure and he hated himself for it. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. "Go away!" He groaned as he rolled over.
"Daniel, it's Dad can I come in?" Asked Edward as Daniel turned his head looking at the door.
"The statement still stands Ed!" Barked Daniel as he rolled back over.
"Daniel, Oswald told me you've been sulking for a week and he's scared to approach you because he also talked about the choice you had to make. Surprisingly he actually feels bad for putting you in that position." Said Edward through the door.
"Lying to make me feel better, even if I set the bar lower than Hell you still crawl under it." Mumbled Daniel as Edward just opened the door.
"To be honest, I did have to explain how wrong it was to him before he truly understood but you didn't have to hurt her like that." Said Ed as Daniel looked over at him.
"Thanks Ed, I feel so much better!" Said Daniel in a sarcastic tone as Edward sighed sat on the bed next to him.
"But it's not too late to get her back." Said Edward as Daniel sat up.
"She torched my stuff, changed the locks, and keyed the words 'Penguin's Bastard Lap Dog' into the hood of my car. I don't think she'll take me back." Said Daniel as Edward sighed.
"It's been a week, she's got to have cooled off." Said Edward as Daniel finally looks at him.
"She did that yesterday." Said Daniel as Edward sighed.
"Have you even told her why you did it?" Asked Ed as Daniel sighed.
"No but I just thought that would piss her off more. She and Oswald hated each other the moment she and I met, she burned all my stuff and keyed my car for cheating on her, but if I told her I did it because Oswald told me too she'd tell her Dad that and he would come knocking down the door with Gatling guns. I think I got off pretty easy." Said Daniel as Edward paused.
"Wait she didn't tell Joker about this?" Asked Ed as Daniel sighed.
"No, she said that she wanted to be the one to make me suffer not him." Said Daniel as Ed hummed.
"Huh. She is definitely related to that psycho father of hers." Said Edward as he sighed and thought about it for a second. "Well it's obvious that you need to prove to her that you regret what you did, try and do something nice for her, show her that you care." Said Edward as Daniel sighed.
"Well she always said that she wishes I was a little more spontaneous." Said Daniel as Edward patted his shoulder.
"See! All you can do is try." Said Edward as he stood but stopped remembering that Oswald and Daniel were related. "Oh and one other thing if you find out she's seeing someone else back off because I hate to admit it but sometimes you're exactly like Oswald and when Oswald first fell for me he killed my girlfriend to keep me with him and I shot him on the docks so don't make our mistakes or I'm certain she will kill you." Said Edward as Daniel became confused.
"But you two have been together for almost 25 years soooo?" Questioned Daniel as Edward realized that Daniel had a point there but also knew that he shouldn't want a relationship like Edward had with Oswald.
"Trust me you don't want a relationship like Oswald and I have. It hasn't happened in a while but we used to try and to kill each other on a very regular basis." Said Edward as he walked off.

Edward walked down the stairs and found Oswald sitting at the dining table eating breakfast. "Did you talk to him?" Asked Oswald as Edward sighed and sat down next to him.
"Yes. I still can't believe you made him do that! I mean this is worse than Isabella, this is worse than having Victor Fries freeze me in a block of ice! He's our son and you forced him to give up his first love!" Said Edward as he was still very bitter about this whole situation.
"Yes, I know what I did was horrible but you don't understand!" Said Oswald as he sighed. "Daniel hates you out your own mistakes but that psycho bitch has been trying to turn him against me for years I couldn't just let her turn my only child against me!" Said Oswald as Edward looked at him.
"Oswald, that is the most selfish I have ever heard you say." Said Edward as Oswald paused utterly confused.
"What?!" Asked Oswald as Edward sighed.
"I know better than anyone that trying to control Daniel is only going to end badly but at least when I did it I was trying to protect him from the dangers that criminals like us thrive on, but you just don't want to let go that's your problem! I understand that you've lost anyone who's ever been close to you but that doesn't mean that you get to control every aspect of his life! He's 25 years old just let go already!" Barked Edward as he stood and left. He was always absolutely disgusted when Oswald would be so selfish but try to call love.
