Chapter 29: Sins of the Father

Sarah laid in bed asleep when suddenly she felt like she was being jostled around. Sarah opened an eye and saw Adam standing on the bed with a huge grin on his face. "Mom! I'm alive!" He said as he hugged her tightly.
"Yes! Yes you are!" Said Sarah as she hugged onto him. She looked next to her and saw that Daniel was not next to her.
"What's wrong Mom?" Asked Adam as Sarah sighed.
"Daniel... He's gone." Said Sarah as Adam looked over at the empty spot on the bed.
"He said that he had a few things to take care of but he asked me to look after you while he was away." Said Adam as Sarah smiled.
"He did?" Asked Sarah as she sighed happily. "Of course he did." Said Sarah as she looked over at Adam. "Come on let's go show your grandfathers the good news!" Said Sarah as she held Adam closely.

Sarah and Adam went downstairs and  Sarah went to the door but found Victor Zsasz standing on the other side. Both Sarah and Adam were terrified but Sarah knew she had to protect Adam so she took out a knife she had strapped to her thigh with a garter. She swiped at Victor but he quickly overpowered her. He pinned her to the wall and stabbed the blade into her shoulders and into the wall pinning her. He left Sarah and walked over to Adam who was frozen with fear. "Victor, do not touch him!" She shouted as she tried to pull the knife out of her shoulder. Victor picked up Adam and threw him over his shoulder.
"Don't worry, you're coming too." Stated Victor as he tore the knife out of her shoulder and grabbed her by the back of her head gripping her white hair. "Now please make this easy, I don't want to have to hurt you or our son to make you cooperate." Said Victor as Sarah spit in his face.
"Go to hell!" She growled as Victor then proceeded to drag her out of the house by her hair and threw her in the back of the car. He sat Adam in the front seat and then drove off with them.

Victor drove them off into the woods but while driving Adam spoke up. "What are you gonna do to her?" Asked Adam as he kept his eyes in his lap.
"Well I'm gonna kill her, not because I want to but because I was hired too." Said Victor as he drove.
"Who hired you?" Asked Adam as Victor looked over at him then looked at Sarah in the rear view mirror.
"A woman who called herself Abbie, it seems your mother has gotten involved with some dangerous people." Stated Victor as he and Sarah locked eyes for a moment. She glared at him with a fire in her eyes that he had never seen but still he wasn't frightened because he had the power in this situation and she knew that.
"What are you gonna do with me?" Asked Adam as Victor looked at him.
"I'm gonna take you home so you can die somewhere peaceful." Said Victor as Adam clenched his fists.
"I'm not dying anymore, Mom fixed me." Said Adam as Victor remained silent for the rest of the trip like he was avoiding the statement.

They arrived in a remote wooded area where Victor drug Sarah out of the car and out into the woods. Adam watched as his father loaded a strange gun with a strange bullet. He knew his father's car inside and out so he knew that Victor kept a gun under the passenger seat. Adam pulled out the gun and got out of the car. Adam held the gun and pointed it at his father. "Dad let her go!" Barked Adam as he cocked the gun. Victor turned and saw what Adam held.
"Put the gun down." Stated Victor as Adam had tears streaming down his face.
"Not until you let her go!" Barked Adam as Victor looked back at Sarah.
"I can't do that Adam, why can't you understand that I'm doing this for you!" Barked Victor as Adam started shaking.
"She won't hurt me! She never would! Iris was the one who wanted to hurt me but she's gone! She won't hurt anyone ever again! Why can't you understand that?!" Demanded Adam as Sarah looked at Adam.
"Adam just put the gun down, everything is gonna be ok." Said Sarah as she had tears rolling down her cheeks as she smiled at him.
"Adam I know you won't pull that trigger." Stated Victor not even looking at the boy.
"No you don't!" Barked Adam as Victor scoffed.
"Yes I do, I know this because you are a mess under pressure, you freeze up when you're scared, you've never defended yourself or anyone a day in your life. You are not capable of pulling that trigger and facing the consequences of killing your own father. Ask yourself if you could actually live with yourself if you killed me." Stated Victor as Adam lowered his arms then heard the loud bang of Victor pulling the trigger and shooting Sarah in the face. Adam stood there eyes wide as he watched Victor dig a six foot grave for Sarah then placed her in it and filled the hole. Victor then walked over to him and held out his hand and Adam handed him the gun. Victor then placed his hand and rubbed the top of Adam's head then took him to the car.
