Chapter 33: The Unbirthday Party Do-Over!

----------------------

"Well then, we should get started on cleaning up the garden," Cater speaks with an air of resignation, after Riddle and I emerged from our little emotional session. "Our photogenic garden is in ruins... I'm so sad," Cater laments, even as he pouts a little.

"I'll help out," offers Trey, but Cater shakes his head. "Trey, you need to help Riddle and Lilith-chan to the infirmary. Riddle did overblot; he should be looked at by the nurse, just to be on the safe side," replies Cater seriously.

"It's okay, Cater-senpai. My injuries are not that serious. Riddle needs medical attention more than I do, and besides, I need to find my candlestick," I inform him with a reassuring smile.

Principal Crowley stands up and walks towards Trey and Riddle in order to escort them to the mirror portal that leads to the rest of the campus.

Trey still gives me a glance to make sure that I am really fine. I give him a grin and wave at him to show him that I'm really fine.

Once they have left, I start running towards where Riddle had collapsed earlier, hoping to find my candlestick. Instead of helping me, Grim simply slumps down tiredly on the ground and complains, "Ugh, I'm starving from using all that magic..."

Suddenly, Grim gasps, "Hm? This is..." I look at him, who is holding up a black crystal in one paw and my candlestick in the other!

"You found my candlestick! And yes, this is the same as the black magic crystal we found in the dwarf mines!" I exclaim. I rush over to Grim to grab my candlestick and deactivate it. Ah, it's good to have my sidekick back.

"You're right! Where did the crystal come from?" asks Deuce curiously.

"Don't eat this one," warns Ace, as he casts a lazy glance at Grim. After all the battling, Ace is lying back with his head resting on his folded arms, as though he is feeling entitled to a well-deserved break.

Grim smirks, "I'll never forget that flavour! Don't mind if I help myself!" he comments, as he stuffs the crystal in his mouth happily.

Deuce and Ace back away from Grim in disbelief. "Unbelievable!" Ace exclaims in shock: "He really ate it!"

"Eh, Grim-chan, that's the type of palette you have?" asks Cater as politely as he can. But he too is quite shocked as well.

"Waah~! It starts out with a rich sweetness and then finishes with the slightest hint of bitterness for an aromatic experience! This rock has its own unique flavour, completely different from the last!" swoons Grim happily.

But I am worried. I get down on my knees beside him: "Can your stomach really handle that?" I ask, feeling concerned.

Ace shrugs: "He's a monster, so maybe his stomach is built differently from ours?"

"I don't think that makes eating stuff off the ground alright..." adds Deuce.

"Hmm... now that you mention it, the lawn has a really refreshing flavour too, if you give it a try," remarks Grim.

"Stop! That's not for eating!" admonishes Deuce, holding Grim back from eating a pawful of grass.

Before Grim can demonstrate his grass-eating skills, we head to the dorms to help gather supplies for cleaning up and patching up my wounds.

Several days later after the incident, we have all chipped in to restore the tea gardens to their former glory. Riddle has recovered from the overblot and he is getting along nicely with all of us.
