Chapter 35: Overblot crash course!

----------------------

"Headmaster, pardon the intrusion," states Deuce.

"Pardon us," greets Ace, as we step into Principal Crowley's office and sit down before his desk.

Principal Crowley begins, "Now that things have calmed down after the Heartslabyul incident, this is the matter I must discuss with you all. You all need to understand more about the berserk state Mr. Rosehearts fell into, if you are to become wizards."

"It was overblot?" asks Deuce. Principal Crowley nods, "Yes, that's correct."

Ace's face lights up at the familiar word: "I've heard about it from my bro before. But seeing someone build up enough blot to become like that was something else..." Ace pauses slightly before continuing, "He really went into full 'evil berserk' mode."

"Hey, what is 'blot,' anyway?" Grim inquires with curiosity. My interest was also perked.

"That's right. You two need explanation as well. I shall fill both of you in, for I am gracious," replies Principal Crowley with a smile. "Blot is a type of waste created after one uses magic, in the same way as a vehicle creates exhaust as it burns fuel to run. Spells burn magic to manifest, but it also produces blot at the same time... That should be easy enough to understand."

"So... blot is the byproduct of magic?" I query further. Principal Crowley nods again. "Blot has been researched since the dawn of recorded history, but there are still many mysteries to unravel. One thing that is known for sure is that blot is a toxin, and building up too much can cause great harm to the mind and body."

"Oh yeah, my grandma used to always say, 'You'll build up blot so don't use magic willy nilly.' She went on and on about it," reiterates Ace, as he imitates his grandma's voice and wags his finger at me like an old lady. Him pretending that I'm little Ace gets a giggle out of me.

"With great power comes great risk. No matter how great the wizard, they cannot use magic forever," warns Principal Crowley.

"So you're saying the more we use magic, the more unhealthy it becomes!?" blurts out Grim, looking alarmed.

"No, that's not exactly right," Principal Crowley replies and stops to think for a moment. "Hmm. It may be faster to show you rather than just explain. My dear ghosts, it's time for work!" signals Principal Crowley, as he calls out to a nearby wall.

Soon after, a familiar smaller-looking ghost appears through the wall, floating in front of us: "Yo yo. You called, Headmaster?"

"Hey, shortie," I greet the familiar face. "Hello to you too, little one," the ghost replies with a smile.

"Eh? What now?" utters Ace nervously at the unexpected appearance of a phantom.

Principal Crowley turns towards the ghost and instructs it: "First, please lend a hand in helping to manage these young ones."

At that point, the rest of the familiar ghost trio materialises.

"Eeeh!?" shrieks Deuce, as the ghost trio gets into battle positions.

"Here we go. Let's start the battle," teases Chubby Ghost. We all stand up and get ready for our positions as well, slightly hesitating, not knowing for sure what exactly is happening here.

"Get your magic pens and devices ready, everyone! Your special lesson with the headmaster isn't over yet," proclaims Principal Crowley, before giving the ghosts the signal to attack.
