Chapter 39: The More the Merrier!

----------------------

Ace knocks on Trey and Cater's room door.

"It's open! Come on in," Cater calls out.

"Pardon the intrusion," Ace opens the door and steps in before the rest of us.

Once inside, I observe that the room is split into two symmetrical halves that closely resemble one another. The most prominent feature is the four-poster single bed with a burgundy-red, velvety canopy that is decorated with a golden tessellated border at the top and golden tie strings. At the end of the bed is a white, heart-shaped wardrobe with a bright red facade rimmed with a black border. On the walls surrounding the room is a signature wallpaper: on the top half is thick, alternating black and red stripes, separated white thin strips between them, while white-and-black, checkered diamond-shaped patterns decorate the bottom half.

Cater's part of the room is on the left side, while Trey's got the right side. Despite the overall similarities, the overall effects of their room are different. Cater's side is cheerful, brightly coloured and playful. There is a pale orange rug splattered with vermilion diamonds, as well as black clubs and spades, resembling shapes from the deck of cards. Moreover, these card shapes have funny faces on them. Similarly, cushions with smiley faces and shades of orange are found on the bed and a small couch at the end of the bed. In contrast, Trey's room has a green colour scheme. The bed is covered with pinegreen-coloured bedsheets decorated with clover patterns, along with two forest-green pillows. His rug is a creative four-leafed clover carpet, with the leaves alternating between the shades of fern and moss.

Another key difference between the two is the fact that Cater is more high-tech than Trey. On his table and shelf are a computer, a music player, a speaker, and a headset, not to mention a guitar case. Conversely, what Trey has are many more books organised, one against another, on the table, with his two green fedora hats propped up on their respective stands atop the shelf. Apart from the books that are tucked into the racks of the shelf, Trey also stores four pairs of glasses.

"Clover-senpai, are you alright?" asked Deuce as we walk closer to the duo. Seated on a desk chair by the grand window, Cater is looking worriedly at the injured Trey, whose leg was in a cast.

"How're you doing, Trey-senpai?" I ask worriedly before Grim chimes in: "Yo, Glasses! We heard you're down in the dumps and came to pay our respects!"

"Oh, it's the A-Deuce combo. Grimmy-chan and Little Supervisor-chan in tow," greets Cater with a wave. His words bring us to Trey's attention. He tries to sit up straighter on his bed.

"Ah, hello... Cater-senpai, what's that A-Deuce thing?" asks Ace in confusion.

Cater's eyes light up, as he explains: "Huh? It's cause both of your names end in "-ce" so I put them together~"

"Don't give us a couple nickname!" protests Deuce.

Changing the subject, Ace interjects:  "More importantly, how is Trey-senpai's injury?"

Trey smiles: "I tried my best to stop the fall, but in the end, my right foot is still injured. I'll be on crutches for a while." Though he looks calm, one can still detect a slight frown. After a brief pause, he adds: "It's not likely that I will be able to participate in this year's magift games."

We all lower our faces, sharing in Trey's disappointment.

Grim pulls out a large tuna can and places it on Trey's nightstand: "Sorry about your injury. Here is a get-well can of tuna. Keep your chin up, Glasses."
