Chapter 48: Taming the beast!

----------------------

Once the flash of light subsides, the ground Leona is standing on is soon covered up by sand. A mini sandstorm is swirling in the stadium.

"Graahh...!" I hear Ruggie groan as I shield my eyes from the sting of the gusts of sand.

Other Savanaclaw members are also screaming, "Uhwaahh!!"

Next to me, Grim is complaining, "W-what the hell? My nose is dry... and my eyes hurt!"

"Is everything Leona-senpai touching turning into sand?!" Jack exclaims in bewilderment.

"This is my unique magic... 'King's roar.' Ironic, isn't it? For a prince of the savannah that hates droughts above all, to be born with this...magic that dries out all and turns it into sand!" roars Leona. Unlike the rest of us, he is standing apart, unaffected by the sand and destruction of the stadium.

"Leo...na... I can't...!" With my eyes closed, I hear Ruggie gasping.

Opening my right eye slightly, I see Ruggie's hand crumbling at the touch of Leona's grip.

"Ruggie's arm is starting to crack!" Deuce yells.

"He can do that to people too?!" gasps Ace in disbelief.

"Leona, stop this immediately! OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!!!" summons Riddle.

However, the collar does not appear. Leona flicks the spell aside like a fly with his magical staff.

"Ffgna!? Riddle's collar spell was repelled!" Grim cries out in shock.

"You have talent but don't underestimate your elders. Unfortunately, for you, I have good marks in defensive magic," mocks Leona with a smirk.

"Tsk!" Riddle clicks his tongue in annoyance. Leona continues to grip Ruggie's arm while mocking him, ignoring his groans: "Haha! How're ya feeling, Ruggie? I bet it hurts. Your mouth is so parched you can't use that silver tongue of yours?"

"This is bad, Ruggie-senpai is in real trouble at this rate!" asserts Jack seriously.

I step up alongside Jack and signal to the others: "We need to come up with a distraction! We can't let this continue!"

We got ready for another battle and, by the looks of it, Leona may just be taking this one seriously this time.

----------------------

The battle is exhausting. Leona is proving to be a far more challenging foe than we could have imagined.

"Uwah!" screams Ace as he is thrown aside by Leona's forest strike.

While Leona is still distracted by Ace, I seize the opportunity to attack Leona from behind.

However, before I can slam my candlestand against his head, Leona grabs it in mid-air while looking at me dead in the eye and letting out a chilling chuckle: "Hmph, you think a cheap trick like that is gonna stop me, little cub?"

Before he raises his hand to strike me, I switch the trick slot in the candlestand to a flash bomb and activate it. With Leona blinded for a few seconds, I run as fast as I can back to the others.

"If you have that much power, why do things like this!?" shouts Riddle.

"Why...? How's knowing the reason going to change anything? Are you going to scold me and then comfort me? In this world, there are plenty of times when talent and effort make no difference. Just like Ruggie can't do anything to me right now. So pathetic. Truly pitiful..." responds Leona while adding more pressure on Ruggie's arm.
