Chapter 46: Mr. Sam's gumbo and Origin dream!

----------------------

Once Riddle finishes explaining his plan, we all turn to look at Jack. He appears to be deep in thought, huffs, and returns our glance: "It's not a cowardly plan... Ahem! I'll help you out this time."

We let out a collective sigh of relief.

"So we basically corner them to admit their plan. Nice!" comments Ace with a smile.

"Leave it to Dorm Head Roseheart to come up with this scheme to take those Savanaclaws down," Deuce chimes in.

"Looks like I have plenty to do to get everything ready for the day of the tournament," mutters Cater as he types away on his phone at lightning speed before putting it back in the inner pocket of his jacket.

Riddle nods in satisfaction and reminds all of us: "I'm counting on all of you and make sure not to draw any suspicion."

"Ugh, I'm beat. Let's go home," sighs Ace, purposefully slumping against my shoulder, squishing Deuce and me with half of his body weight.

"Guys~ I'm too tired to walk. Help me back? Please~" he teases playfully.

Grim groans tiredly as well: "And I'm starving~." He plops into my free arm, causing me to almost fall from all this extra burden.

"Ugh! Get off me, you're both so heavy! You're not the only one who's tired," I complain, shoving them off with Deuce's help.

But before we head back, Riddle clears his throat again to gain our attention: "Since it was in the name of gathering information, I will overlook you all breaking School Rule Number 6: 'Personal fights are strictly prohibited on school grounds,' but..." he trails off before his gaze at us turns deadly.

"Next time, it will be off with your heads and, as for Lilith, your snacks from Trey during your visits to the dorm will be confiscated for a whole week, if this rule is broken again. Is that understood?" Riddle completes his warning.

All of us flinch unconsciously. Even Jack.

"Yes, we're so sorry," we chime in unison while Jack nods along with us: "Uh-huh, sorry."

Riddle nods in acceptance and turns to Cater: "Good, let's go back to the dorm." The duo walks out of sight.

"He looks like a weakling, but your dorm leader can become terrifying in a heartbeat," mutters Jack aloud.

For a change, Ace agrees with Jack completely, nodding vigorously: "I know, right?! It's easy to mistake him for a hedgehog, but he's actually got the quills of a porcupine. It's best not to disobey him."

I punch the air with excitement. Everyone shoots me a look of astonishment. I lower my face to hide my embarrassment.

I change the subject quickly: "Alright, let's keep the ball rolling until tournament day! We'll catch you tomorrow. Grim and I still have a shift at Mr. Sam's shop, see ya!"

Before any of them can reply, I drag Grim to the shop.

----------------------

It's already 5:30 pm by the time we are finishing up our shift at the shop. We are closing the shop early. Not many students have been coming to the shop due to the Magift practices.

"Yikes! Don't scare me like that! You got a problem?!" Grim huffs in annoyance at pairs of void-lizard eyes staring back at him, as he is polishing the jar containing them.
