Note: I DO NOT OWN TWISTED WONDERLAND: DISNEY!
Hello, dear readers, Chapter 4 is finally uploaded. I was able to edit this chapter during a little breather! Wish me luck for the weeks ahead, as I juggle edits of the story with schoolwork _(T^T)_
Chapter 4: Unwanted Spooks!
----------------------
Once we arrive at our destination, the scene looks like it comes from a horror movie. Heavy clouds gather above us, as a vintage old dormitory looms out of the darkness like a haunted house. We walk past the crooked fences and dead trees with cobwebs hanging off them, push open the aged gates that squeak noisily, and go up a flight of stone steps. Our path toward the mansion is barely illuminated by the hazy glow of a lantern-like lamp next to the gate and the feeble light of the next three lamps that have been spaced out every few meters along the steps.
Despite everything, it looks kinda cool...and quiet. But I remember seeing a shovel propped ominously against the pillar next to the gate...
As we stand before the mansion, I mutter to myself with some scepticism: "Wow, this place is a dorm? This place has too much charm." At least there aren't any gravestones? I try to reassure myself in my mind.
Principal Crowley smiles happily as the heavy wooden twin doors swing open with a flick of his hand: "Alright then. Please come inside."
He leads me into a dark and dusty lounge. It's as though a tornado has ripped through it. Everything is in disarray: the tea table and the rocking chair have flipped over, several books are scattered all over the wooden-planked floor, framed portrait paintings are hanging askew on the wall, while a landscape one has fallen onto the floor. Even a part of the wallpaper is peeling off the wall. Only the three-seated couch and a sofa with striped black-and-white beach chair motif remain upright.
"Make yourself at home. Staying here will at least keep you out of the rain. I'm going to do more research. Don't go wandering around the school! Goodbye!"
After Principal Crowley leaves, I wander around the lounge, finding a good spot to rest. I decide to pull off the carpet draped across the back and seat of the sofa. A huge cloud of dust sprays into my face; I cough violently.
"Wow, the dust looks like snow..." I mutter to myself as I notice it is pouring outside. That principal was right. At least, I am out of the rain.
It takes me a while to locate the light switch to the lounge.
"Let there be light!" I command dramatically, as I flick it on. The lights flicker for a few seconds before they stabilize.
"Hyi! It's really coming down!" A familiar voice cries out.
No... It can't be... My heart drops to my stomach.
I turn around and see the last person or cat-creature I want to see right now.
"Gyahaha! You've got this stupid look on your face, like a spider being attacked with a water gun!" teases Grim, as he thrusts his obnoxious face in front of me.
"Grim, how did you get back in!?"
"I have no trouble sneaking back in school. Bring it on. If you think that getting thrown out is gonna make me give up on getting in, then you've got another thing coming!" he boasts with a swagger.
I sigh tiredly, feeling resigned at the prospect of ever being able to be rid of Grim: "So why do you want to get into this school so badly, Grim?"
"That's simple! I'm a genius who is destined to be a great magician! I've been waiting a long time for the Ebony carriage to come to pick me up..." There is a little pause before the sparkle in his eyes dies away, as they lower to the floor in defeat: "But in the end...Hmph! The Dark Mirror must be blind for not noticing my talents. So that's why I came here on my own. Not letting me in would be a waste for the world, humans just don't get it," he asserts fiercely.
