Chapter 16: The tarts of Rosehearts

----------------------

"Isn't that the same collar that the red-haired upperclassman had during the entrance ceremony? Why do you have something like that on?" asks Grim once we all sit down on one of the couches that we cleaned in the lounge.

"I ate a tart," replies Ace.

"Huh? A tart? Just that?" I murmur in disbelief.

Ace nods and starts recounting his story

Heartslabyul dorm- kitchen

After our little adventure earlier, I was exhausted and hungry. To make things worse, I missed dinnertime. So I was hoping to find something yummy in the fridge. There were three neatly placed strawberry tarts in the fridge. I reckoned that no one would notice a tiny piece missing.

I took a bite and the taste was out of this world, like it was made by an artisan patissier.

"Wow! This is amazing!" I blurted out with my mouth full.

"Of course, it's delicious. Trey does not make tarts that are anything less than the best," declares a voice behind me.

I turned and my eyes widened at the sight of Riddle standing before me, with his arms crossed in front of his chest, looking very stern at him: "There's nothing better than this! Not even those sold in... Eh, dorm leader!?"

"You sure have some nerve putting your hands on things that belong to me. Laws of the Queen of Hearts, Number 89: 'One shall not eat a tart without the queen's permission.' Tart theft is an unforgivable crime! OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!"

Immediately, a red and black heart-shaped collar appeared around my neck: "Gyyaa!" I screamed in shock at the sudden weight on my neck.

----------------------

"... the end," Ace finishes.

Grim and I look at each other without saying a word, before looking back at Ace.

"You're both in the wrong," states Grim.

"Yep," I agree with him.

"Isn't stealing my magic for stealing a bit of tart going a bit far!? For a wizard, it's like having your arms and legs chained up and there were three whole tarts! There's no way he can eat them all by himself! There's got to be a limit on how stingy you can be!" Ace defends himself.

"Hmmm... okay...." I utter indifferently.

Ace glares at me and confronts me with an air of dissatisfaction: "What's with that lukewarm reaction?!"

"Could they have, by any chance... been for some sort of party, someone's birthday or something. Three whole tarts are a lot for one person. Boy, I'm brilliant!" Grim praises himself copiously.

"Birthday?" questions Ace.

"That could certainly explain his anger," I reason with him.

Ace pouts slightly, "Uuuuh... I totally thought that you'd say he was being tyrannical, Supervisor."

I stand my ground: "You're right he was being a tyrant." Before Ace could protest, I press on, "But you're at fault for stealing his tart in the first place. So Grim is right, you both are in the wrong."

"How about apologizing tomorrow?" I suggest.

Grim agrees, "Grudges over food are the worst. Ah! Wait a second, I never got my tuna cans from the headmaster!"
