Chapter 20: Food fight!

----------------------

After chasing Grim around the courtyard, with Deuce and Ace cornering him by using their ice spells to slow him down, I manage to finally grab him by the scruff of his neck.

"No way! No way! No way I don't wanna go back to those boring classes!" Grim whines and kicks his little legs in the air, as he struggles to get out of my grip.

"Now listen up, Grim! Didn't you say you want to become a great wizard?" I snap at him.

His eyes widen in disbelief. I had never been so sharp with him. "Y-yes," he whimpers.

"Well, then you better go to class and I don't wanna hear another word from you!" I stare angrily ahead, as I march forward, still holding him by the scruff of his neck.

Ace and Deuce step aside, as we head in the direction of our next class.

"Dammit! You're being extra strict today!" Grim whined.

"Only the best for the both of us," I reply, playing it cool and tough in front of the guys. At least, we will get a lunch break and hopefully, that will motivate Grim to remain in school!

----------------------

The cafeteria—we return to the "crime scene" of our disastrous cleaning assignment. I look down, as I shuffle into the cafeteria, hoping that no one would notice us. But Grim floats in front of us in excitement, crying out without a tinge of shame, cheering loudly, as he lunges towards the buffet: "It's finally lunchtime!!! Uwaah! Everything looks so good!"

"I've never seen so much food in one place before," I agree, as my jaws drop at this spread.

"It's pretty amazing that they have a buffet," Deuce gushes gratefully.

As I grab a tray for me and Grim to share, Grim skips around and gushes over the food around him. "Fluffy omu rice! Grilled chicken and bacon egg tarts~!!!" he exclaims.

Grim is so loud; I can feel the eyes of other students landing on us. Mortified by Grim's behaviour, Ace covers Grim's mouth: "Shoosh! You're too loud! You only come awake at lunch..."

But Ace's complaint falls on deaf ears. Grim swaggers like a general leading an army of one (that's me) to the food counter and rapping out his commands: "Lilith, make sure you get me some of that grilled chicken before it runs out!... And omurice, too! Bread and jelly, too! Just take a bunch of everything!" I grin in amusement at his excited "chipmunk" voice squeaking in delight at the feast before him, as I add the food to our tray. Each time, I make sure to get an extra helping so that I can get my share. I also remember my "debt" to those two rascals and add a chocolate croissant and an iced latte on the side.

It isn't long before the tray becomes loaded with food. I look down at our tray and gasp in shock at the sheer amount of food all piled up on top of each other like a terrifying food pyramid: "Um... Grim, are you sure you can eat all that?" I ask.

"Hmph! Of course, I can!" Grim throws his head up proudly before whipping around. He never sees the two other students coming up behind him with their trays filled with food.

CRASSSH! The metal cutlery, along with the porcelain plates and bowls, falls onto the wooden floor, with the latter shattering into smithereens and making a deafening sound.

"Ah!" yelps Grim as he lands on his bottom upon impact. I quickly set the tray down to help him up.

"Aaaahh!? Look what you did! You rodent!" yells a Heartslabyul student. Not only has his tray fallen onto the ground, but the plate of pasta is plastered against his shirt. Egg yolk is dribbling down the white shirt of his uniform that fits tightly over his thin body and the striped black-and-white tie slung loosely from his neck. His facial expression under his tousled grey hair is darkened with rage, as he confronts us: "Because of you, my lunch is ruined! I had been looking forward all day to eating carbonara today!"
