Note: I DO NOT OWN TWISTED WONDERLAND: DISNEY!
Chapter 23: Unexpected encounter!
----------------------
Once classes are over, we head straight to the woods behind the school, and sure enough, there are tonnes of chestnut trees.
"Waaah! There are so many chestnuts all over the place! It's a forest for all-you-can-eat Mont Blanc, yay!" cheers Grim. Without any self-restraint, he jumps down from my arms and tries to pick up one of the chestnuts that had already fallen off the trees.
"Let's get this party started... Oww, ow!" he suddenly exclaims, as he withdraws his paw from the nut. "Ffgna!! The thorns pricked my paw!"
"That's what you get for being hasty. You can't go picking chestnuts with your bare hands... oh or your paws, in this case. We'll also need a basket or something to put them all in," Deuce scolds.
"The botanical garden probably has whatever we need inside," suggests Ace. Deuce nods in agreement: "Let's go take a look."
----------------------
From afar, the geodesic dome greenhouse looks solid and imposing, with six wing-like supporting poles shooting out from the top of its tiny roof.
"Wow, it's no ordinary botanical garden!" mumbles Ace, his jaws gaping. All of us, equally awestruck, nod our heads, without letting out a peep.
"Come on, guys. We're losin' daylight. Let's get on with it so that we can get enough chestnuts for those taaarts!" Grim reminds us and knocks us out of our reverie.
Motivated and focused, we race towards the glass entrance and open the door. This isn't a garden but an indoor forest! Swathes of trees, bushes, and shrubs, interspersed with carefully-planted flowers in flowerpots and flowerbeds flank the path that is paved with grey tiles. This landscaped greenhouse also features mini bridges suspended over tiny ponds.
"There must be a caretaker for this place. We can't just borrow the tools without informing him. Or we will get in trouble again. We should split up and find him," suggests Deuce.
"Then I'll go right," Ace takes charge in a heartbeat. "And you'll go left. Grim and Lilith, you guys go straight to the back."
I give him a thumbs up before we go our separate ways.
"Hey, hey, Lilith look at this," calls out Grim, as he floats over to some fruit trees. "This bunch of fruits smells so good!"
I rush over to him and grab hold of his paws before he can yank a bunch of what looks like grapes off the vine: "Don't eat those, Grim! You're gonna get us in trouble again!"
I warn him, just as I feel as though I have stepped on something alive. Sure enough, I hear someone let out a growl of pain behind me.
My heart almost jumps out of my skin. I turn around to see what I have stepped on: "Oops, I'm so sorry. I didn't see you there!"
A tall guy with small pointed ears peeking out from beneath his thick, messy brown mane and two long braids flung on either side is lying on his back, hands behind his head and his legs bent at his knees. He could be mistaken as a sunbather at a beach, except that he is actually basking in the sunlight on the grassy floor of a greenhouse.
"Ouch!" He pulls his foot away and springs to his feet to confront me, with his hands placed on his hips: "Oi, you've got some nerve stepping on someone's tail without saying anything."
I gulp nervously in the face of this tall and intimidating lion dude. He has tan skin, with piercing green eyes and a thin scar running down his left eyebrow to his cheek. I notice other leonine features, such as the thin tail with a hairy tip. He wears a yellow vest over his white dress shirt, standard uniform pants and a pair of brown leather sandals.
