Note: I DO NOT OWN TWISTED WONDERLAND: DISNEY!
Chapter 2: Ceremony in Flames!
----------------------
We make quite an entrance, as Principal Crowley pushes open the heavy doors. All eyes turn towards us. I feel as though we have just barged in, with the ceremony in full swing.
The room is filled with young men dressed in elaborate purple and black ceremonial robes. Golden threads decorated the fringes of their broad sleeves and hoods, while purple sashes, held in place by a golden buckle featuring an engraved raven, serve as a belt to tighten their robes around their waists.
My anxiety rises. As we make our way towards the stage, I try to hide myself behind Principal Crowley. But I couldn't help looking at the front of the room. Five figures all dressed in dark silk robes are surrounding a large gold-framed mirror at the centre of the stage. The glowing tablet is floating in the air.
"Ah, he's finally here,... but with a girl?" said one of the hooded figures, peering from behind his hood. This hooded figure was a head taller than me. He had brownish red hair and silver eyes.
Principal Crowley faces the figures and scolds them: "I cannot believe you all. We were missing one of the students, and you did not know. So I went to find them." He gestures at me and Grim.
"You are the only one yet to be assigned a dormitory; the Dark Mirror will do it. I shall watch over the raccoon, while you step in front of it," Principal Crowley instructs. Grim protests, but his words are muffled.
I step in front of the large mirror and come face to face with a large talking mask surrounded by glowing green flames.
"State thy name," the mirror speaks. I shift uncomfortably, as I feel everybody's eyes on me.
"L-Lilith," I stammer distractedly.
The mirror is silent for a moment before replying, "The shape of thy soul is..." it started to say before stopping in mid-sentence. It had a look of dismay when it concluded, "...I do not know."
"Come again?" utters Principal Crowley in disbelief.
"I sense not a spark of magic from this one... The colour, the shape, all are nothing. Therefore, she is not suited for any dormitory." With these words, the face and flames in the mirror disappear.
Loud chatter and gossip soon fill the room. I stand there, my legs feeling like jelly. I feel exposed, embarrassed and nervous all at the same time, but I manage to keep it in.
"An Ebony Carriage would absolutely never go to meet someone who can't use magic! In 100 years, there has never been a mistake in student selection. So why in the world..." As Principal Crowley drifts off, lost in thought, his hold on Grim loosens.
"Mmmgh!...Pah! Then I'll be taking her place!" Grim exclaims before floating swiftly towards me.
"Ah! Stay where you are! Raccoon!" shouts Principal Crowley.
He tries to catch Grim with his hand, but Grim manages to get away and looks towards Crowley's direction.
"Let me in the school instead! Unlike that dumb human, I can use magic!" boasts Grim with a smirk. "If you need proof, I'll show you right now!"
Oh no, he has that look in his eyes...he's gonna- I try to run out of his way, but the familiar ring of blue flames surrounds me.
"Oh come on!" I grumble, placing my arm over my face to protect myself from the heat.
