"Good morning, Abigail." Ellie sat down at the table besides Boyd. Steelbeak and Kyle were already there. And no, Abigail still hadn't noticed Kyle yet. But Ellie did sew him a cute little western outfit so that's cool.
Abigail was currently serving everyone food. Kyle quickly snatched some from Ellie's plate.
"Good mornin', Ellie! I hope you slept well." Abigail had just finished preparing breakfast for everyone. She took her place at the table, serving herself food last.
Boyd was happy. He had scrambled eggs.
"I slept very well!" Steelbeak answered as if Abigail was talking to him instead. "I like how the mattress was made out of hay. Reminds me of my Texan childhood."
Okay. There were a lot of things Boyd, Ellie, and Kyle did not know about Steelbeak.
"Excuse me, miss. Thank you for the breakfast." Kyle finally spoke up, making his existence known. Hopefully his manners would impress Ellie and not make Abigail scream. "But we're going to be stuck here for a while so what is there to do in this town? I mean- I'm grounded but I'm still wondering."
Abigail gasped and jumped out of her seat, clutching her chest. "Wh-wh- did that insect just speak?!"
Ellie frowned. "That was rude."
Wow, Ellie was backing up Kyle. That made him feel good.
Steelbeak backed him up too, agreeing with Ellie. "Yeah, that was rude. That's my BFF Kyle and you need to treat him with respect."
Ellie continued. "He is my second son I have been speaking about. Have you not noticed until now?"
"I'm so sorry... I know you've mentioned a second son but I didn't think- I didn't see-..." She cleared her throat and sat back down. Her face was red in embarrassment. "Forgive me. That was rude of me... I have just never seen a talking bug before. That isn't common around these parts."
"I suppose it is more common where we are from," No it wasn't. Ellie just wanted Kyle to feel better. "We are from the city. But anyway," She continued. "He did ask a good question. What is there to do around here? I am sure Boyd would love to get out." She shot Kyle a look. "And not you. You are still grounded."
Kyle huffed and crossed his arms.
Abigail thought for a moment. "Well... there is a saloon here!" She chuckled. "The circus won't be here until next August so I'm afraid that's the only source of entertainment we have around here."
Boyd gasped. "A saloon? Like in the cowboy movies?" He wanted to squeal in excitement but he had to remember to use his indoor voice.
"Cowboy movies?"
No one explained that comment to Abigail and Boyd turned to look at Ellie.
"Can we please go? Please?"
"Saloon?" Ellie had to look that up in her data. "Boyd, that is like a bar. No we are not going."
Abigail decided to speak up. "Oh. but it would be a good experience for him. A lot of the young boys around here go to the saloon. It teaches them how to be men." She frowned. "But you should not go, Ellie. The only women that go there are..." She trailed off before leaning in to whisper. "The shady ladies."
Ellie had no idea what that meant. "So... you are telling me I cannot go because I am a women?" She crossed her arms. "Fine. Then I am going."
Boyd reassured her. "Don't worry, mom! I'm sure there won't be any real alcohol." He leaned in. "Because this whole town is just roleplaying, remember?"
