Madelyn Shepherd was buried deep in grief with the recent loss of her best friend George O'Malley, and with her other best friend Meredith in recovery the last thing she needed was a merger, an invasion, more people and more competition

Taking a deep breath before she enters the residents locker room, Madelyn walks in and heads straight to her cubby keeping her head down not spearing a glance at anyone until she hears Izzie say something which instantly makes her look up

"Oh, hey, You can't put that in there", Izzie directs to a girl with short hair wearing these awful orange scrubs "Oh, they told us to grab a cubby", Madelyn now notices who's cubby the girl is trying to take, swallowing the lump in her throat she continues to put away her stuff, choosing to stay out of it

"Yeah I know. It's just... We keep it empty for a reason. Can you just take your stuff out? There are some empty ones over there you can use" The short haired girl looks around at her friends "I don't think so" This makes Izzie change her entire attitude towards the girl "Can you just- I said take it out!" the blonde says now raising her voice although this did not help the situation at all "Great I got the crazy one next to me"

Madelyn knew the girl had just crossed the line with that one so when she turned to look at the girl in orange scrubs it was no surprise when she saw Izzie stand up and approach her "Oh, you what to fight? Cause I will" before anything escalated Alex walks in pulling Izzie away, "Izzie.Iz." Alex says struggling to hold Izzie back "I will fight you. You're pretty tiny, Come on, Come on. I could take you down in just a couple of seconds" With Izzie not backing dow Madelyn takes this as her cue to leave and heads towards Meredith's room

Madelyn walks into Meredith's hospital room and sits on the edge of her bed. "What's up with you" the blonde asks "Izzie almost killed some Mercy Wester"
Before Meredith can ask any questions Cristina strolls in "I hate them already" she says as she slumps down in the chair next to Mer's bed. "Me too" Madelyn sighs agreeing.

The three girls are joined by more residents and eventually Izzie who says "They took George's cubby", Meredith looks up at her "They're locusts... Comfortable locus, feeding on our surgeries"

"It's rude. There should be at least a couple of days where they act like guests before they put their feet up on the coffee table. And what's with the orange scrubs? What, ours aren't good enough for 'em?" Izzie rants not expecting to get this response from Meredith, "We ran out. They're on back order. Randall from the supply company says there'll be here in a week. That's what you learn when you lie here all day." Madelyn lays her head on Mer's shoulder "Why bother ordering new ones? We could just give these to our replacements"

Meredith looks around at all her friends defeated expressions "Hey. We are not some stupid hosts. They can't invade us. They can't attach themselves to our faces and then while we're eating spaghetti, explode out of our chests and skitter across the floor. This is our ship. This is our ship." Lexie looks at her sister "Excuse me. Are you ... are you quoting a Sigourney weaver movie?"

"Shut up. That's what happens when you live here. You watch a lot of tv. We own this hospital. We were born in this hospital. And we will hold this hospital with our last gasping breath."
