Madelyn walks into the kitchen immediately regretting her decision when she hears Meredith giving Alex and Lexie a lecture

"Izzie leaves, and Mark gets a kid, And you two decide that the best way to deal is to get drunk and mash your genitals together?"

"You did not" Madelyn says looking at Lexie "Alex of all people" she says trying not to laugh at her best friend as she takes a seat next to her

"Look, no freakin' way You get to judge us or give relationship advice. Besides, you were a total dirty mistress, like, two weeks ago." Alex says to Meredith

"Are we calling me a dirty mistress?" Lexie asks getting ignored by everyone

"That was two years ago, and his wife didn't have cancer" Meredith responds to Alex

"Because I've only been with, like, Six guys in my whole life. Okay, Alex and I ... we've done it before. That was recycling. It was, like, good for the environment" Lexie says still ranting

Madelyn laughs at the girls comment about recycling  earning a nudge in the ribs from Lexie "Ow?!"

"Izzie's gone, I was hоrny, she was there" Alex says shrugging his shoulders

"Oh, crap. I am a dirty mistress. Oh, God. You're gonna tell Derek, and then Derek's Gonna tell Mark that I'm a whοre" Lexie rambles making Madelyn laugh harder

"No, I am not going to tell Derek, And neither are you, and you're not gonna say anything. We are all keeping our mouths shut. Izzie is coming home" Meredith says "No one has to know!"

"Hi. Know what??" Izzie says standing in the door way

The residents are having lunch in the skills lab while Meredith is practicing for her surgery

"What are you talking about?" Madelyn says walking in with Alex and sitting next to Jackson

"She's on this thing ..." Meredith says referring to Cristina

"Okay, if you had to choose between the thing you love ... Surgery ... and the person you love, which would you choose?" Cristina says

"You would choose Izzie, right? Because you two are gonna get back together." Meredith asks Alex

"Shut up,Wait, why do you have to choose?" he replies

"That doesn't matter. You just do. Which is it ... surgery or love?" Cristina asks again

"Surgery" Madelyn says while stuffing her face with pasta

"See, little Shep gets it" Cristina says giving her a high-five

"I want both" Jackson says

"That's what I said" Meredith agrees

"No, you ... you can't have both." Cristina says

"Why the hell not?" Jackson argues

"Why the hell is he here?" Cristina asks Meredith

"I said he could be in here Because he's in the whipple, too."

"Okay, whatever. Once again, you cannot have both. You have to choose"

Izzie walks in "Choose what?"
she asks, but seeing the confused looks on everyone's face she says "Uh, my ... My pet scan got pushed back an hour, So thought I'd ... Join you for lunch"

"Okay. That. You have to give up that ... learning the procedure, Tuning out the world until you get it, like, you know, Doing the procedure is the only thing that matters, Like if you don't get to do it, you'll die. That's what you have to give up" Cristina explains

"For what?" the blonde asks

"Love" they all say in unison

"Why?" Izzie questions

"Yeah, that's what I said" Meredith says

"Okay, that's not the point. You know you couldn't do it. You know you'd choose the procedure" Cristina pressures Meredith

"Fine! If I had to choose, gun to my head, I would choose surgery. Okay?" Meredith says

Madelyn looks at the girl smiling knowing she's just lying to get Cristina to shut up

"Okay, well, thank you. Is that so hard to say? I don't know, why is it so bad to say that out loud?"

"Because it's crazy. How ... how ... it's crazy. Surgery ... it's just a job. It's the thing you come home from, not the thing you come home to. And if you lose your job, you get another one, 'cause there's always another one. But ... If you lose your love ... If you think you're losing your love ... Well, then suddenly, nothing else matters" Izzie says

"This is what you guys talk about during lunch?" Jackson says earning a slap on the back of the head from Madelyn

"I'm with them. Love comes and goes. Surgery doesn't" Alex says

Well that's that then

Jackson looks at Madelyn with a smirk

"Stop looking at me like that" she whispers

He moves closer to her ear and whispers "I can't help it, you wanna go to on an call room" he shrugs

"Uh, we, we've got um patients to see" Madelyn says pointing at herself and Jackson as they hurry away to the nearest on call room

Madelyn promised to meet Lexie after her shift as she's been having problems with getting over Mark, as she's waiting for the girl on the bench she sees Mark leaving followed by Lexie running over to him

"Hey" the girl says

"Hey"

"Uh ... How did, uh, Sloan's surgery go?" she asks

"I slept with Addison" Mark blurts out

Madelyn tries to act like she didn't just hear what the man had said

"Oh, thank God 'cause I slept with Alex. Oh, I was feeling so... well, you know how I was feeling ...Which is why this ... this ... this is great. You know, we're ... -we're ... we're even. We ... we kind of canceled each other out" the girl struggles to get out

"You slept with Karev?" the man questions

"Yeah" the girl says nervously

"While I was dealing with my sick daughter? While I was hurting?"

Madelyn cannot believe the hypocrisy she's witnessing right now

"Uh, well, you weren't hurting. You were sleeping with Addison"

"You broke up with me, left me ... And just ... Wow. I ... I can't even look at you right now" Mark says before leaving the girl standing alone

Madelyn walks over to Lexie

"He, he just-" Lexie tries to say

"I know, I heard" Madelyn sympathises

Lexie stars tearing up so Madelyn pulls the girl into her chest and whispers in her ear "Hey, it's okay, you're okay Lex, i've got you" Madelyn continues to stroke her hair as the girls cries continue to grow louder.
