Chapter 2.

2. Family

I slowly opened my eyes, I felt a pain on my shoulder and winced. "Take it easy..." a voice said, I turned my head and saw a lady around my age. "Where am I..?" I said as I slowly sat up , "Your inside my house, my daddy patched you up. You got shot on your shoulder, My name is Maggie by the way!" She as she held her hand out. "Nice to meet you Maggie, I'm Y/N. Who shot me?" I asked and shook it with my other arm. Maggie was about to answer when the door slammed open.

"Is she awake?" Another lady came in, she looked at me and by her expression I knew my answer. She ran to me and hugged me, "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to!" She cried, I slowly hugged her with one arm. "Hey..it's okay. All that matters is that I'm alive!" I said with a smile and she stopped hugging me and smiled.

"You'r right...my name is Andrea. I am truly sorry." She said with an upset look. I gave her a warm smile. "It's alright Andrea, I promise. My name is Y/N, nice to meet you." She smiled and nodded. "Well, we should be leaving. I left some spare clothes for you. Im sorry if they aren't your size and your bag is on the side of the bed. We'll leave you to freshen up." Maggie says as she and Andrea left the room.

I slowly got up and grabbed the clothes, I went into the bathroom and turned on the water.I took off my clothes and went inside the shower. The water hitting my face, it felt amazing. I finished showering and tried on the clothes. I put on a tank top and shorts since it's been warm outside.

I looked myself in the mirror and looked at my shoulder, it was stitched up. I brushed my hair and tied it to a low ponytail. I left the bathroom and saw that my shoes were in the corner. I put them on and went to grab my bag, I then left the room. The house was beautiful, it felt welcoming, safe. I looked outside the window and saw that the group was outside.

"You look great." A voice behind me said, I turned around and saw that it was Maggie. "Thank you, and for the clothes." I smiled and she hugged my arm. "It's no biggie, come. I'll introduce you to the rest." She said as she leads me outside.

We walked outside and I saw how beautiful the land looked. It looked so untouched. "This is my family! That's my sister Beth and my daddy he is the one who patched you up." Maggie said as she pointed at them. I went up to him and shook his hand. "Thank you so much for helping me. My grate gratitude...?"I said waiting for his name and he smiled at me. "Hershel and Of course, it is my pleasure." He said as he put his hand on top of mine. I smiled and let go.

"There's also Jimmy, Patricia and Otis but Otis isn't with us anymore." Maggie said sadly, "I'm sorry for your lost." I said. She shook her head, "Thank you, but it's okay. He died as a hero." She said with a smile, and I smiled back.

"Sorry to interrupt but is it alright if I steal Y/N for a bit?" a voice behind me said, I turned around and it was the same guy who came up to me and Daryl. "Go ahead! We'll talk later Y/N." Maggie says and I nod.

I walked next to the guy, confused. "My name is Rick, Rick Grimes." He said, "Nice to meet you Rick, you already know who I am." I said with a smile and he smiled back. "Thank you for rescuing Daryl, and I'm sorry about your shoulder." "It's fine really and it's no problem. It was the right thing to do..." I said as I went quiet on the last part. How could I save a random man and not my parents.... "You'r alright there?" Rick stopped and looked at me. I looked at him and smiled.

"Yeah!...sorry about that." I said, "Its alright. Here let me introduce you to my group." We both walked towards these cars, where I'm guessing they're staying at.

"Alright everyone, this is Y/N. As you heard she rescued Daryl and we are all thankful. So Y/N we welcome you to our family." Rick said with a smile, i softly smile back and then at the others who also smiled. Except for this one guy. "Seriously Rick, we won't have enough to feed for another person." The guy said angrily, and I felt uncomfortable.

"Shane let's discuss this somewhere else." Rick and Shane left to talk. I felt uncomfortable when a lady with grey hair came up to me. "Thank you for rescuing Daryl. My name is Carol!" She said as she shook my hand, I smiled and shook back. "No problem Carol..." I said with a small smile.

"Here let me introduce you to the others." She said as we went to the others. "That is Dale, Andrea,T-Dog,Glenn, Lori and Carl." She said as she pointed at them and we all greeted each other. I sat down next to Carol and we all talked.

"So Y/N what we're you before all of this?" Lori asked, "Im a nurse, or was. I worked in a hospital and in a school." I said. "That's great news. I don't know if this sounds silly but since you worked at a school. Have you ever taught before? If so would you be able to teach my boy?" Lori asked.

"Of course, I've taught students before but only for a little while. I would gladly teach your son!" I said. Lori thanked me and asked if I could teach Carl tomorrow and I agreed. We all talked and I got to know everyone. The sun started to set and Carol started to cook. I helped Carol and she looked at me.

"What's on your mind?" She asked and I looked at her, "Where is Daryl? I haven't seen him all afternoon." I said, "Well, after you got shot. He insisted of helping even though he was hurt. After Hershel patched him up, he went to hunt. But I knew he just wanted to be alone. Don't worry he will be back just for dinner." She smiled and I nodded.

We both finished cooking dinner and hand them out to the rest. Daryl came back just like what Carol said, she was about to go towards Daryl but I stopped her. "Is...Is it okay if I give it to him?" I asked nervously. She smiled, "Of course." She handed me the food and I went to where Daryl is.

He was on top of an RV, I climbed up and saw that he was sitting on the edge. I slowly went towards not trying to disturb him. "Dary-" He stood up and put a knife on my neck. I stood there in shock, he looked at me and put the knife down. He put it away and sat back down.

I let out a deep breath and rubbed my neck, I sat next to him and put his food in the middle of us. "I..was wondering where you went." I said looking ahead. "I went out hunting." He said not paying me attention and eating his food. "How is your cut?" "It's alrigh'...how's you'r shoulder."

"It's alright..." We both sat in a comfortable silence. I then stood up and he looked at me, "I should get going, to help Carol. It was nice talking to you." I said with a soft smile, he didn't look at me. I started to walk away when he said something. "Thanks." He said still not looking at me, "...For the food and for earlier." I smiled, "Your welcome Daryl." I climbed down and was smiling.

"There you are, I'm guessing it went well?" Carol smiled and I nodded. "You haven't eaten, are you hungry?" She asked handing me a plate. I took it and smiled, "Thank you." I said as I ate.

After we finsihed eating, we discussed where I was going to stay. Andrea volunteered to take me in as an apology. I smiled and it was settled, it was night and we all went to sleep. I would sleep in the same bed with Andrea while Dale was still looking out. I got in the RV and set my bag next to the bed, I got in the bed and the second I lay my head, I fell asleep.
